Cryogenics. Am I crazy?

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Apparently I have expressed my desire to have my head frozen in a cryogenic container many times. Some people seem to think this is odd. I'd like to take questions on why I believe this is a sane, rational idea and why there really is no down side in doing so.

I do believe that "death" will one day be looked at in much the same way we look at smallpox now. In other words, eradicated unless you happen to live in Africa. Having said that:

1) I don't believe that we will automatically solve overpopulation problems or anything.

2) I don't believe that the process of aging is necessarily cured along with that of death.

At any rate, I'd like to reach out to the JC Denizens within the sound of my voice. Let's get to the bottom of this, but mostly, let's all remember this should I die in the next week or so and ensure that my dome gets to be properly ... on ice!

Wouldn't you need to be like Kraang if aging doesn't stop?

Just like in Futurama, eh? Living in a jar, spouting witticisims and wisecracks. Not for me but go for it if you wanna. Should be like Walt Disney and freeze the whole side of beef, not just your head. Unless they have body transplants soon.

I don't think it's odd. I think it's ungodly expensive for your survivors, who, let's face it, probably aren't going to manage their money any better after your demise than they did when you were alive.

Yeah. Also, doesn't the process currently make you totally inviable? Oi, basically it's a donation with a goofy burial. Just throw them the cash if you support the whole thing. It's gonna be mad cool 300 years from now if the world makes it. But Robb, you and I are fucked.

I personally am going to put my body into the municipal trash system.

Okay, so what I'm getting out of this is that I am 100% sane. Excellent! This is far beyond what I had hoped for.

What is it you are attempting to preserve?
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

A physical copy of myself and my DNA. I understand that my mind may not be passed on, in a functioning manner, but my genetic material will be there for future scientists to replicate.

Well, you can do that now. Pluck a strand of hair and throw it in a freezer. Problem solved!

Write games that people want to play, then at least your prose style will outlive you.

Who or what "people" are, is another question entirely.

Yeah, this is what I am hoping for. If I do become internet famous for an hour I need you guys to have my back when everyone comes here to call me a dumb bitch.

Which one? The one now? Or the one when you were two?

Or the one when you die at 90?

Whatever they manage to preserve. I am GUESSING the one that's in the cryolab when I "die" and my brain is harvested for some future scientist to ponder over.

But that's just a guess. When you're dealing with future resurrection methods, it's almost always guessing.

I'm just saying, you'll be all senile and bitter by then. Whaddya wanna preserve that for?

Really, you should preserve it while it's at the top of it's game.

That's right. Get in that freezer now!

Look. I'm not clear on the afterlife bit, so I'm just saying this so you aren't ever surprised. If you go through with this I'm stealing your head and pickling it for display, you have a defined face.
