Perhaps it is insane to shut this place down?

Like so much Level 9? I love this place! Pinbacker doesn't even show up around here on the weekends, and we are letting HIM make the decision to close the doors?

What the fuck is this shit? What are we doing? What is this HORSESHIT??

What about all the Hugo threads? Those are a valuable service for people programming in that language. You shouldn't remove those from the Internet.

Good point.

Perhaps the Senator from California would like to respond. I'm sure he's got an answer. Probably a snotty one, too.

I say keep it alive, and not just because I'm at home on a Saturday night, reading through the posts. It has its highs, it has its lows. It hasn't been great lately, it will have moments of greatness again. Plus, shutting it down means we lose the Teufel Zekk posts.

Awww, come on, do I really need to be reminded of the a-holes I dated every 6 months?

It's retarded to shut the site down because Pinback told you to. If that's what you were trying to get someone to say, there you go.

When they produced some of the best threads ever, yes.

As I mentioned in the original thread, this was not "me telling Jonsey to shut it down". We discussed it at length over a period of months, and both came to the same decision at the end. He is just trying to have a little fun with you here, get some people riled up, which is fine. But behind the scenes, the plan is still fairly concrete.

The plan? Months? Isnt it just a simple keyboard stroke and all is gone?
the last group complained, quite tellingly They said, "Why don't you have a spoon that just says 'Earth?' It would save time

Well... you know... it didn't really help Pinback's Web Central 1-4 when we killed it...

Maybe we could destroy the message board at moltobenny and just see how it goes? As sort of a test run?

Mike, it is not a simple keystroke. This place means a lot to Jonsey, and it also means a lot to me. When you see something you love heading down a long road to decline, you have to make decisions, some which aren't always easy, and this one wasn't.

I will admit that I was the one who brought it up originally, but purely in jest. After a particularly bad stretch of posters (while such things had become relatively common) I said something like, man, this is really becoming difficult to watch, becoming something I didn't want the JC BBS to become, why don't we just shut it down?

I kept the log of that IM session. His response was "I fooking agree with every single fucking thing you said."

Originally he wasn't really serious about shutting it down, but that seed had been planted, and after a few weeks he came back to me (sure, you can call me the king of shutting websites down, but Jonsey was the one who followed up with me) and said maybe we should look into it.

We did, and this is where we stand. We agreed to play "good cop/bad cop" in the meantime, with him sort of laying the blame on me, but that's okay. In fact, the place has been much better since the announcement. I think that's great.

I want it to go out on a high note, and it looks like it will.

There is a swear filter installed on my IM client. So that's why I had to type that in like an idiot.

Are you short on cash Robb? I would have sent you my copy of Persona 3 if I knew you couldn't afford it.
Good point Bobby!
