The layout of the front page DOES sicken me

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Sorry everyone. It really isn't good, is it? I am sorry.

I am gonna change it again. That front page should be frigging CYAN.

OK, I fixed it now.

It is supposed to look like a CGA monitor, in that mode where it does white-black-cyan-magenta.

(There is also the dark yellow thing involved.)

It kind of looks like you are supporting both breast cancer and dolphins. Kudos to you!

The pink's a bit strong, but I like it better than the last design (took too long to load and looked a bit too much like what we thought the future would look like 10 years ago.)

I remember liking the games that used Orange Red Green, much better than the ones that used Cyan, Magenta and Green. I also remember replacing the text in RGB man with obsenities, probably when my programming career peaked..
the last group complained, quite tellingly They said, "Why don't you have a spoon that just says 'Earth?' It would save time

Change those rounded rectangles to sharp-edged rectangles, and maybe do the titles in the DOS system font for MAXIMUM OLDNESS.

Also, following the CGA/EGA thing, in a few years I can look forward to upgrading that front page to display SIXTEEN colors at once.

How did IBM-compatible computers become any sort of standard again?

Should be front page updates next week. Flack tagged me on Facebook in the meme going around where people post 25 facts about themselves: I'll do it for this website and just link it over on FB.

I want to do an article congratulating Chris H about all the amazing advances he made with his game system, and also an IF article as to why I continue to use Hugo (and/or why I picked it in the first place). So yeah, the Content Beaver should feed again shortly.

Hey cool, thanks.

And yeah, I wouldn't have thought CGA. And I liked CGA. Come, let us bask in the magnificence.

I installed After dark and most of the screensavers look just like that only less pink.

The game was Alley Cat -- here's a link:

It shouldn't surprise you that you would need DosBox to play it now. :)

It may take me a while, but it is IN the hopper. For instance it took like three months for me to write a review of Flack's book, and since I really enjoyed it, I didn't have to agonize about coming up with anything snarky. But yes!

Worm had to be the one to tell me that you can simply type "mount (directory)" in DOSbox to mount any directory on your PC ... I had avoided using DOSbox for my entire life because I didn't want to take 20 seconds and use config files.

And then even those were not needed.

I was computer-less in the years between my Apple II and a 1993 PC, so I missed the Cyan Era, but goddamn do I love DosBox.

Jonsey, when you re-do the front page can you also make the ACK link point to http://www.mozomedia.com/ack ?

Take your time -- pretty soon my Ultima parody comes out, and it's the first game to really run the new ACK through its paces.

Pity you missed CGA, JJ... although after suffering through the crazy colors on the Apple II (white was white, except when it was purple or green) then I think the predictable colors of CGA would have been a relief. :)

I have fond memories of tracking down a copy of SIMCGA so I could run CGA games on my Hercules amber monitor. :)

One of my dad's favorite jokes went something like, "the PC now does four colors, as long as two of them are black and white ..."

Maybe on Christmas you can edit the CSS file and swap to the other red/green/yellow pallete.
