There are two videos I found extremely interesting, on the subject of what you should say to the police if you are questioned. The first is by a law professor, and the second is approximately equal time by a police detective who follows him. If you think being innocent and telling the truth to the police can't get you into trouble, please watch this film.

The cop actually agreed with the professor about what you should say, and told how he "interviews" suspects and often gets them to confess.

I think all you need to know about talking to the police can be learned from watching any reality cop show (the First 48 comes to mind). They'll catch people red handed and, unless they confess, or get someone else to confess and agree to testify, the people normally walk.

I suspect direct evidence alone proving the crime is extremely rare. But I liked the way the cop pointed out he'd get the suspect to write out an apology to the victim, and thus, with a signed confession in the perp's own handwriting, those cases got 100% conviction rates!Flack wrote:I think all you need to know about talking to the police can be learned from watching any reality cop show (the First 48 comes to mind). When I read the title of this topic, I was like: "Is there any debate about this subject? The answer is: NOTHING AT ALL."
Police like to pretend they have some control. They will offer you "deals." The only thing they have control over is what they charge you with. If they ever say "I can make it go easy for you" the thing to think (NOT SAY!) is "are you a D.A.? I don't think so."
If you get pulled over and/or arrested, do what the cops say. Just DON'T SAY ANYTHING except "Am I free to go?"
If you want examples, watch the videos on this page:
