PINBACK REVIEWS THE WII, AFTER LOGGING IN AGAIN

Post by pinback »

We got a Wii last week. I was slightly opposed to this, because 1) it costs money, which we don't have, and 2) it's for babies.

I am no longer opposed to this. The Wii is fucking brilliant. I don't know how it does what it does, but I do not believe I can go back to a gamepad after using the Wii Motion-Plus Remote controller. I admit to being skeptical. But it works flawlessly and amazingly.

AND it was successfully able to determine that I am an obese tub of oil and grease! What other console is going to give you that kind of feedback?

Yes, the games are all for babies, but you don't mind this while you're playing. And the bowling game on Wii Sports Resort is the best recreation of any sport on any system ever. My scores, right after firing it up for the first time were eerily similar to my real life bowling scores -- and I was using the same throwing motion that I use in real life.

WII: THREE AND A HALF (*** 1/2) STARS, ONLY BECAUSE 98% OF THE GAMES AVAILABLE LOOK LIKE FUCKING THIS:

See if you can find House of the Dead: Overkill. It's a shooting game on rails, and contains all the humor, violence, and language of Grindhouse. Absolutely terrific, and probably in bargain bins by now. For that matter, Ghost Squad (another shooting game on rails) isn't bad either.

Godfather and Bully are both out for the Wii. They're okay and have some wonky control things going on, but they're not bad.

Can I blame this on Sofia Coppola too?

I will be interested to see if the Wii keeps it's fun quotient for you in the long run. Ours kinda just sits there now but when we first go it it was a daily thing for months. Of course we have yet to buy any games besides WiiFit.
