Returning Unused Gift Cards

Someone posted a question on Yahoo! Answers that I thought I'd share.

Why cant you return a giftcard if you have the unused giftcard, the gift receipt, and the original receipt?

I was at Big lots, and at the time of purchase of some gift cards, I was told I could return the cards, on three conditions. 1) It has to be the same store I bought it from 2) I had to bring the original receipt 3) It had to be returned within 30 days. I did end up where I needed to return them, and when I went to the store I was told I couldn't return the gift cards. Does anyone know why you cannt return an unused gift card?

They don't want to and don't have to. Find the person who lied to you, beat them up and rob them for the money you lost. When you get out of jail, repeat this every time until you get all your money back and as a bonus they won't keep lying to people! (Only kidding about the last two items.)

Always check the *written* policy which is usually posted on the package or at the register. I'll bet you didn't read the packaging on the card which said, "cannot be redeemed for cash."

But you have an alternative. There are places that buy (and sell) unused gift cards, you can resell it to them at a discount. Next time realize that generally gift cards cannot be refunded.
