Monday for dinner I had BBQ at Jack Sprat's BBQ in Kansas City, MO. (Both times I typed "BBQ" I accidentally typed "BBS".) Good, good BBQ. I also had a "small" (har har) side order of fried mushrooms. Each mushroom was the size of a large onion ring and solid all the way through. I have no idea where someone gets mushrooms that large. I joked to the waitress, "I haven't seen mushrooms this large since Super Mario 3!" She just looked at me, blankly. Anyway, they were gigantic and delicious.

Last night for dinner I ate at a place called Kona. In OKC we have a Kona Steak House, but this was different. I had some volcano sushi and some shrimp and chicken Pad Thai which was really, really good. Like, one of my top 5 meals of all time. I also had some saki and later had some beer and a long island iced tea at an Irish pub called O'Dowd's.

I think dinner tonight is either at a place called The Cashew or maybe somewhere else. Someone recommended Winstead's for burgers and shakes, so I may check that out sometime this week as well.

I think those are shittake mushrooms, (that's a Japanese term pronounced shi-tah-kay, it doesn't mean "shit take".) I understand some people - especially Japanese - will cook shittake mushrooms as one would do a steak.

It's spelled "shiitake", and they are not large.

I found their menu online, and this is all it says:

"FRIED MUSHROOMS Made fresh and served with horseradish sauce. Half Order 4.95 Full Order 8.25"

Here's another picture of them that someone else uploaded online, to give you a sense of scale.

I've heard the "puffball" mushroom is giant, and edible. Here's a picture of a mushroom, I think it's large, does anyone else think it's large?
