I think I noticed either today or yesterday that there are 700 registered users on this board, then I noticed someone new had registered and there were 701. Now, I notice that it says there are 726 registered users.
Does it seem odd that 26, 27 people would want to register here, over the course of one day?
The User Count is kind of strange

Yeah, what is going on is that the spammer that registered and posted 20 messages a day are still registering accounts. They never stopped doing that.
They aren't activating them, they are just assuming that they work. Their scripts probably auto-post the messages.
Thanks for reminding me. I've been meaning to make changes to that system. After my HD crash I no longer have a copy of this BBS on my home system either. :(

I notice you must have thinned out the user list, it's down to about 209 users now. What did you do, drop people who posted only once over the last 90 days or those who registered but didn't post for at least 30?
A number of websites do something similar, I think they have account resource recovery systems - especially web mail providers - that if you don't at least access your account once every 30 days, your account goes on suspension and if no action is made after 90 your account and the resources it is using (including the user name) go bye-bye.

Nobody ever registers here. So I just had it display the last 900 users, I selected them all and deleted them. Then I changed the reg auth code.Tdarcos wrote:I notice you must have thinned out the user list, it's down to about 209 users now. Yeah, I don't mind if people's accounts stay here forever, even if they never come here again. As long as they are real people.A number of websites do something similar, I think they have account resource recovery systems - especially web mail providers - that if you don't at least access your account once every 30 days, your account goes on suspension and if no action is made after 90 your account and the resources it is using (including the user name) go bye-bye.

Then why do you allow Pinback's account to stay? :)Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:Yeah, I don't mind if people's accounts stay here forever, even if they never come here again. As long as they are real people.
