So I took a screwdriver and rearranged a spare keyboard to Dvorak style. I saw that a body could simply change Win7 back and forth from qwerty to Dvorak with a simple click of the mouse. So I'm a-gonna learn to type Dvorak style. Think It'll take? I bet it's like learning a second language. I hope it'll keep me from typing TEH all the time, among other things.

I used to have a friend who swore by the dvorak keyboard. He spent a lot of time typing on his computer at home and swore he was able to type faster (and had less hand cramps) with the dvorak. The problem was, as you can imagine, whenever he worked on anyone else's keyboard it was back to good ol' qwerty.

Re: Dvorak keyboard
I discovered it once when I mistyped it, in Word Perfect 8, if you typed in Teh, like at teh staht ov a centensz, it automatically corrected it to The. As soon as you hit the space after the h it swapped it back. I think there are a few other words that it does that for.AArdvark wrote:I hope it'll keep me from typing TEH all the time, among other things.
Swore by, or swore at? Wikipedia has a whole article about the Dvorak, I happened to read it a few days ago. One advantage it has is exactly what you spoke about, it can be easier for people with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome because more words are doable with one hand.Flack wrote:I used to have a friend who swore by the dvorak keyboard
I also discovered that I had believed a false meme. The original QWERTY keyboard wasn't made to slow people down, it was made to keep common character combinations separate from each other in order to keep the typewriter from jamming. Same reason that the keyboard keys are at a slight angle from each other, so that to reduce striking close keys and jamming the tin keys together.
