Flash Games I Demand You Play

It's not very HARD.

And it is very PLEASING to play.

Make sure you're SOUND is on, otherwise it's pointless.

First rule to software companies, you want to do a flash game, fine. You want to require some plug in that runs as a system and part of it, okay. You want me to run a .exe and install something, NOT ON YOUR FUCKING LIFE.

There is no legitimate reason for them to require running an application on my computer. This is a goddam Flash game running in a browser, not an application I am installing. If they can't figure out how to run their stupid game without requiring me to expose my computer to whatever malware or spyware or browser hijacking object or whatever it is that they need a .exe installed so they can collect marketable data by stealing my identity or whatever they want to do, then I can do without whatever piece of trash it is.

If they were honest, there would be absolutely no need to install or run anything on my computer and no reason to do so. I have enough headaches with Flash wanting updates. If it wasn't for the fact you can't run YouTube without Flash I might have refused to install that.

I just had to readjust some startup intalled programs and some registry setttings because some piece of shit software disabled right-click. It stopped working in almost every case. And if you think about all the things you do with right-click, how crippling that is.

The game you linked us to is based on Unity as opposed to Flash and yes, it prompts you to execute an installer.

As for the game, the sound mechanic was a bit more involving than the puzzles themselves (being able to chain together melodies or fashion a certain tune by bouncing the drop to a goal) and I wish it had been a more dominant feature.

Oh, so Unity isn't some plug in to flash, it's a competitor to Flash. They're dead. So many things use Adobe Flash that if the manufacturer doesn't install it the person will, but expecting people to use some unknown company's Flash wannabe is kind of a big stretch. I see them going nowhere and becoming just another nobody who tried to go up against an entrenched competitor with no significant advantages, and, of course, died unceremoniously and in anonymity. Like so many other products that provided no significant advantage to the market leader.

Word Perfect has a product called Envoy which is basically a document display platform like Acrobat, but it just never went anywhere and Envoy became just another PDF wannabe like Common Ground, another document display platform that died off, never finding a market or an audience.

Ben, this is not a flash game either, as was pointed out, it uses the Unity plug in. And from what I've seen with other flash games there's no reason it couldn't have used Flash.

The game is non-winnable. I got as far as F#3 and in that level they have a destroying platform with a small opening that moves that you have to get the ball through, and fill not one, but two pipes, and the pipes drain faster than you can get a fill out of the shipping pipe.

The games were a bit difficult, but it's like, the games ranged from difficulty of 4 to 7, then this one jumps immediately to 95. No ramping up of the difficulty to get you used to something this difficult, just BAM and you're hit with something so Nintendo Hard that it's essentially impossible.

It's a timing puzzle, meaning you have to do some sort of reset and move of the bounce-off line as the destroying platform does. This would be hard enough if there was one receiving pipe with draining or two non-draining pipes. But they've put two pipes that you have to fill, and if you don't fill them fast enough they drain off, that they have made the game so difficult that it's unwinnable.

You'd think they'd playtest this stuff on ordinary people, but no, always use hard-core gamers who do this 16 hours a day and "fuck you" to everyone else who can't move fast enough.

I agreed to install the Unity plug in, and guess what, it doesn't know enough to redraw the game when a new window is passed around. As I said, a Flash Wannabe but not only that, it is a worse development platform than Flash, which you really gotta try hard to do.

You also cannot turn the music off. Scumbag bastards.

This isn't Wild Tangent, Shockwave (Macromedia's own answer to Flash) nor another obscure plugin; Unity is a cross platform (iOS, Android, Windows, Xbox, PS3, Mac OSX, etc.) environment designed to allow (largely) painless porting of games between OSes, and a dedicated game creation environment instead of the multipurpose and more generic, system that Flash embodies. So it isn't exactly a "wannabe flash" alternative nor is it a dead platform (I've personally designed games on it has friends of mine who make a living off selling such things).

This game is a fairly good example of cross platform compatibility; the way one positions the ramps / trampolines is obviously designed to be usable on a touch screen. And the game itself is the usual straight forward, simple fare that propagates the iOS app store, so I image the team / person behind it perhaps picked Unity for such aspirations.

Regardless, I'd say this game actually succeeds in using Unity to its advantage and tailors itself quite well to be a cross platform title.

Shockwave was the predecessor to Flash, if I remember correctly, Macromedia also developed (or bought) Flash. And let's not forget, Macromedia is owned by Adobe, which means they're both owned by the same company and SW has basically been abandoned. (Let me check Wikipedia a second.) I don't see much reference to Shockwave these days, plus the price of Director (the tool to create Shockwave files) is $999, whereas a Flash creating tool is around $300 from Adobe, and there are third-party tools that can make Flash programs and do not cost anything.

Must be extremely new, I've never heard of it and this was the first website that used it, which is why I thought it was some add-in attachment to Flash.

Yeah, well they still need to fix the redraw problem before I consider the platform serious. It's the same problem that occurs with Gemini Rue, they wanted it to look like an older game, but the way they're doing the graphics is worse than what is normally being done and in some cases the graphic generation fails and you literally get crock animation failure and snow.

A graphics platform intended to be run in a windowed environment that can't handle window switching has a lot of work left to be done.
