Maybe, but I'm just thankful there won't be a six paragraph essay about babies dropped into this thread.

Look, if more than six people used this BBS I would upgrade it to phpBB3 and we'd have the "ignore user" feature. Now. NOW, with that in mind -- most "ignore user" features that I've seen work hilariously terrible, and still show that one's nemesis has posted, it just puts something up like, "Nemesis has posted a message! Click here to read it!!" instead of just silently failing.

(The only place where I use the ignore user feature is on Something Awful. I would ignore thousands of goons if I could.)

We asked Paul to stop doing the following:

- Pasting quotes from movies and shit nobody cares about
- Seeing a word in a post and then giving us the Wikipedia description of that word
- Posting messages that were eight paragraphs in length
- Posting shit that has nothing to do with the thread
- To stop posting so god damn much

And he couldn't do ANY of those things. He was even worse than the kind of people that spit in your eye on a forum. He just read and ignored what we were telling him because he thought he knew better. The idea of him changing a single fucking aspect about his behavior was just not something he processed. I'm fucking sick of it.

EVERYONE is leaving the site because of him, by the way, Ben. Not just Flack. I know that you'd love it if this place went 100% off-line, but I would kind of like a place where my friends can talk to one another. Paul frustrates that effort. He makes it impossible. And I am not going to wrestle with the 2.x version of phpBB when he can't -- WON'T -- do a single fucking thing to change his behavior.

A SINGLE. FUCKING. THING, Ben.

It's not that he won't change his behavior. He can't. He literally cannot change that behavior, it is BUILT IN. It is IN THE PROGRAMMING. And if he tried to change it, the result would look like he was trying to change it, but it would be EXACTLY THE SAME.

So you know what sane people do, they say, huh, I guess that's just TDR, and go about their lives, instead of posting dramatic messages about HOW CAN WE PREVENT our POOR, RIGHTEOUS EYES from having to SEE WORDS POSTED BY THIS MAN!!!

Or leaving.

BABIES. Emotional infants, all of ya.

I guess that means no more food videos.......ever.

I can live without funny food videos for the sake of forum sanity. I can do that.

Again, Ben: nobody could get any other conversations in. And he's not fuckin' handicapped. He showed no interest in this shit.

Whatever. He's welcome to reply to whatever he wants on Caltrops, and he's welcome to start as many threads as he wants in his sub-forum. If this BBS was threaded, which I desperately wish it was, he'd be welcome to post as much as he wanted HERE as well. It's just that with inferior, flat forums, you can't not get the 8-11 paragraphs.

And also, I am calling bullshit that he posted like this on your dial-up BBS. BULL. SHIT.

He posted exactly like this on the Bull & Finch. It's all he knows how to do.

I just don't understand why you can't just SCROLL DOWN. Oh look, it's a three page TDR post about one word in the previous post! SCROLLIN'!

Instead of whinin' 'bout how he's somehow doing you harm.

I would be happy with any of these options:

01. Limiting Tdarcos' posts to one area, like on Caltrops.

02. Providing one Tdarcos-free zone.

03. A 30 minute episode, every day, of Don Rogers with Tdarcos as his sidekick. 30 minutes, every day.

This. I don't see how it's not the same as intentionally scrolling past ads. It's even helpfully delimited to make it easier to skip posts without even reading a single word! I read EVERY SINGLE POST made here, and it takes me perhaps 15 minutes a day.

Before the ban, my Tdarcos tolerance was pretty high. It was very easy for me to skip over long screeds and tune out the completely-unrelated. Sure, it's kind of annoying when he derails your own thread, but for the things I really care about, my OCD outweighs his (not that I really have OCD). The other things- like my reviews and what not- well, those threads can wait until the next time I feel inspired to add to them. I mean, they probably would lie forgotten for long whiles anyway.

Still, after the ban, my tolerance was way low and certain things were hard to ignore (not that I contribute to much of the "signal" around her). Between banning and not banning, I'd lean towards the latter, though. The first is just going to make it that much harder in the long run, I figure.

Offer him $10 and he'll be the #1 poster next week.

(Run it through his legal team first.)

If there was a "ignore user" function, would that make any difference to anyone here?

If the "ignore user" feature in phpBB3 actually works, sure (plus this`ll be the excuse to bring JC into 2010). But I'm with Roody, as I believe my tolerance for Tdarcos has actually decreased since I haven't been forced to desensitize myself to his BS. My issue is also more that I feel personally violated when he trashes certain threads: it doesn't take me that long to read or skip through his pointless diatribes but I have at times taken personal offense to the fact he isn't on topic, adds nothing of merit and his rants take me out of the comfort zone I go into when responding to a topic. I still think he's toxic, misguided, emotionally stunted and that his emotional investment in JC is unhealthy but whatever...

Well, it would be a plug-in for phpBB2.

And I am ASSUMING it just quietly drops the post from showing. If it pulls any of this "HERP DERP HERE IS A POST! YOU CANT SEE IT! CLICK HERE TO SEE IT!" then the plug-in can fuck off.

(Also, Happiness Engine, I aim to send you the Caltrops code at some point. I guess I need your e-mail address first though.)

And I don't know when I am gonna get a chance to go slumming for phpBB2 plug-ins, so this could be months. I gotta send Roody's computer before I do any of this.

(Except for sending Happiness Engine the Caltrops code.)
