I'd be happy being able to browse bases as opposed to being reliant on "New Message Scan" to flip through posts.

From the main menu, go to the [M]essage area.

From the Message Area, pick the [A]rea you want to read in.

Once you are in an area, [R]ead messages.

I connected via telnet.exe from work today and all the graphics looked perfect. Then I tried it again from my Windows 7 laptop, and the graphics were garbled. I checked telnet.exe on my Windows 7 laptop and it's 79,872 bytes and dated 7/13/2009. The version of telnet from my server at work is 76,288 bytes and is dated June 11, 2009. I copied the version of telnet from my server at work to my workstation at home and it's working perfectly from here now as well.

So ... ? Why does it work okay with some versions of telnet and not others? WHO KNOWS. But it does. I'll add the good version to robohara.com/bbs for download.

Argh, I logged on tonight and it said I had no time left! But I hadn't logged on earlier - I must have time left!

Fixed. I created a new security group and forgot to give people in that group time. I thought it was odd that I was the only person that logged on yesterday.

Also, I tried to upload some text files but the software would not wait long enough for me to get the Z modem going on my end. Is there some procedure I am not aware of here?

I haven't even worked on the file system at all. I'll look at setting it up this weekend.

It's not the logoff screen (yet), but from the main menu hit /T for the text file area for a surprise ... ;)

Also I learned that you can set up to 10 random files by naming them like file.ans, file.an1, file.an2, etc. So I may add a few random logoff pages and you never know what one of them might end up being ...

Pinback. I know you moved. But let's go. Let's call the BBS regularly.

I did a little research over the weekend on the file system. Mystic BBS supports X, Y, and Z-Modem. So do most of the BBS-oriented telnet packages (like SyncTerm), although straight telnet (of course) does not. Anyone wanting to utilize the file system would have to use one of those additional programs.

I'm willing to implement it if people will use it -- otherwise, I'll just set up a sister FTP server and we can call it good.

In all honesty, I am not sure how much a file server will get used. I mean, the conversations of the dial-up stuff is what we all really liked, right? Warez we can now get anywarez.

I don't seem to be able to remember my password. Could you reset it, Flack?

Is there a way to paste text into posts on the BBS? I wrote up a mini review of my trip to the Boston area but am unable to insert it into a post without rewriting the whole thing.

I think it's more a limitation of the telnet client you're using than the BBS itself. Every time I connect to the BBS I am both amazed and reminded of the technical limitations we used to endure. Not being able to cut and paste, click on URLs, or post inline pictures seems to archaic.
