It was absolute bullshit that they didn't let HIS face be the one depicted in Jedi. What was the reasoning for that? The voice thing I get - if I could pay James Earl Jones to dub my voice on Zoom calls I'd do it. No shame there. Kind of a bitchtits maneuver to not let Prowse know ahead of time, but that's George. Replacing him with some other guy though for the mask off scene - indefensible.

The unofficial answer is that Lucas was punishing David Prowse for stating in a 1978 interview that Darth Vader was Luke's father. Prowse contends he was joking and trying to throw the reporter off, and people have pointed out that the script to The Empire Strikes Back hadn't even been written yet, but there's a possibility that the idea was floated around or set or something. While filming Empire, Prowse was given the line "Obi Wan killed your father" instead of "No, I am your father" to read on set to keep the secret, and the real line was revealed only when James Earl Jones dubbed the line in later.
The "official" answer is that Lucas thought Prowse didn't look old enough to be Luke father. An entire franchise built around putting masks and makeup on people to change their appearances, and they couldn't add some wrinkles to a guy's face? I'm not buying it.

That's hilarious. There is a letter that was scanned that is floating around where Sir Alec calls the entire first movie a clown show (not literally, he was more eloquent) but George was probably in awe of him and Ford but felt he didn't have to take any shit from Prowse or Baker or whoever. Ah well, at the end all you can do is come down to "George made a bad decision" which is never as fulfilling when you get to that point as it might seem.
I was told by the actor in the Big Foot costume that if the costume ever came off and I recast the role, I'd viciously attack myself, so I sort of have a different perspective.

I saw that story this year about Alec Guinness' letter. More than once he complained on set about having to repeat "all that space gobbledygook nonsense" and it frustrated him to no end that people remembered him as Obi Wan Kenobi, after all the movies and stage performances he had done. Like Prowse in Clockwork Orange, I remember being thrilled to see Guinness as the blind butler in Murder by Death. His voice is instantly recognizable. If you want to see a really weird one, there's a movie called "A Majority of One" where Guinness marries a woman and the whole movie is about dealing with interracial marriage. I know what you're thinking, but no -- the woman is a white Jewish woman. In the movie, Guinness plays a Japanese Buddhist.

I always remembered Alec Guiness in The Bridge On The River Kawi where he passes out after standing at attention all day waiting for the Japanese guy in charge

This isn't a future thread, you have no idea if they will belong in it if you know what i mean. But whatever, lets run the math on this one:
64% black
21% white
14% hispanic
Yeah, seems like we've got no institutional racism in our justice system. No problem to see here. Thanks for the update commander!

I thought he was already dead too then I realized nah that was that guy from Green Mile.
Good actor. He was funny and I dunno how me made his eyes do like he made them do.

At least you tried.
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.
