I find the following things offensive:

1.
pinback wrote:2. Intolerance.
15. Any religion, but primarily Christianity.
2. Essentially homogenized countercultures that preach individuality.

3. Self-delusion.

4. Righteous indignation aimed at things which cause no tangible harm.

5. Righteous indignation of any sort not accompanied by dedicated corrective action.

6. A sense of moral entitlement to privilege.

7. Vehement defense of common, uninteresting opinions.

8. Not blaming the victim, at least a little bit.

Why Harley Davidson motorcycles?

I understand that some PEOPLE abuse them and remove the exhaust baffles and some OWNERS/RIDERS feel it's not neccesary to shave or bathe on a regular basis (leather lifestyle) but to find the bikes themselves offensive?
Maybe it's the styling or the big hulking v-twin engines you find offensive.
(potato potato potato)

enlighten, please

1. Very loud and obnoxious.

2. Purchased often as a status symbol/personal expression. Both of which I hate.

Ah, so it's the owners of the machines that you dislike. Nuff said..

While the owners do tend to be loud and obnoxious, I was referring to the bikes themselves with that item. They are most definitely LOUD, and anything loud is OBNOXIOUS.

Hence: LOUD and OBNOXIOUS.

"Nuff said."

The bikes do not come that way from the factory UNLESS SOMEONE ORDERS them like that. I have heard a FEW (mind you) nice and quiet Harleys. My friend bought one a couple years ago and the first thing he did was put the screaming eagle straight pipes on the thing.

The point is that the machines can be as quiet as someone wants them to be. It's all up to the owners.

How come these guys can make their bikes so loud that you can't hear yourself think but a cop will stop me just because there is a small rust hole in my muffler? That pisses me off. I know the bike owners always use the excuse that "it's so other drivers will know we're there" but I think that's a bullshit reason.

It totally is. If drivers can't see you, then what the hell does it matter if they can hear you?

Plus! It's critical that they can hear you at six in the morning. There was one asshole who used to run his motorcycle at precisely that time every morning when I moved to the place I'm at now. It's been a while since I've heard him -- hopefully somebody shot him.

That being said, I'd LOVE a motorcycle. Course, I wouldn't go out of my way to make it any louder than it already was. But something sleek and Japanese would be great.

So, getting back to the original, poorly-conceived point of this topic:

WORM. You say, you are unoffended by anything. Let's use a common experience in recent history as a baseline. Particularly, one Tuesday morning a few years ago when we all woke up to the news that (if you were on the East coast) planes are blowing up all over the place, or (if you were on the West coast), hope you got some good pictures of the WTC, 'cuz you ain't gonna be seein' it for awhile.

Accompanied by a most severe influx of adrenaline, I admit to feeling somewhat offended by this turn of events (see: "violence" see: "religion" see: "enforcing morality" see: "pride" see: many others).

Can you, Worm, describe for us your own feelings on that morning? Was it a confirmed "meh", as you are so desperately hoping we'll believe?

"You think you're too cool for school, but I've got a newsflash for you, Walter Cronkite: ........you're not."

When I was up in NY a few years ago, my father gave me a little AAA NY guide with hotels and restaurants and maps in it and stuff. When I was moving last year, I was getting rid of alot of useless things that had collected and went to pitch that in the trash pile. I happened to glance at it as I was covering it with something else, and noticed that the picture on the front was the Manhattan skyline. The old one. So, you know, I got it out of the pile.

A couple years later during some kind of war when I was watching 'Beavis and Butt-head Do America' one boring night, I noticed that they left in all the references to chemical weapons and how horrible they were, but edited out the scene where Butt-head goes into the cock-pit to harass the pilot. That offended me.

Well, I was in school when I first heard about it.

Frankly, the only thing I guess that was offense thing I saw that day was when some middle eastern exchange students had to leave because OMG RAG HEAD. Aside from that I really didn't feel much about it whatsoever.

So you would not consider yourself a particularly empathic person, then?

Have you ever known anyone who posts on the internet deliberately trying to get reactions from people for reactions and attention to ever be particularly receptive to the fact that there's a world outside their own mental universe?

This naturally leads to the question: Why DO you type anything on this board?

Can you elucidate a little about why it is fun?

Is it just for the pure joy of self-expression? Or do you enjoy a continuing, witty, intelligent dialogue about various topics which interest you?

Pretty much all that. Though, everyone eventually gets dumb and old.
