I would post A) way more content, and B) much better content on a telnet BBS than I do or would here. Without question. The reason for this is because:
1. It would be easier to spend more time here, because it would look more like I was working than surfing the web.
2. Telnetting would bring me back to the old days and rekindle my love for the BBS medium.
It would be like Pinback II: The Ultimate Reckoning around here. There.

Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

I actually kind of *like* the public accessibility of the BBS... to the point that I like it when totally random people just stumble in and join the conversation. Like the thread way back whenever about Wild Tangeant where we actually got a developer from teh program to chime in. That shit's cool. Also cool is the ability of me to link people to threads I like. So maybe we could have some way of automatically archiving all the threads somewhere so that after, say, two weeks of no responses they get automatically moved somewhere for paroozing pleasure?

You guys all make good points. If there were a way to "export" a base or two maybe that would be a good compromise. Hell, I don't know.
Noted on the WildTangent thing. Man, was that guy sucking down the Kool-Aid. Actually, quite a few random pieces of human shit have "dropped by" to give us their worthless takes on a variety of subjects. We're probably due for another one.
There are a few of you that obviously need to make it over to the new system or it's not worth doing. You all probably know who you are. I'll research what it would take to get a telnet port open to where we want it. I think that will be the toughest part of the whole thing -- just getting a nice, secure machine somewhere.

THis would require work.
FWIW, durring hte fighting games discussion I actually linked the topic on bot hte Game FAQs fighting board and the Shoryuken forums, which is why that particular thread had so many page views from random people. I'm disappointed more of them didn't stay around to continue the discussion but these are people who's only existence revolves around memorizing the most strings of button presses to create infinite combos that kill the player in thirty boring uncreative seconds, so we probably aren't losing much by the lack of their presence and lackluster conversation skills. That said, that was my way of trying to attract more people to this place. I don't even care if I like them or not, having an idiot trying to troll us would honestly brighten my day at his point because I would have some hilarious CONTENT~! to look at when I sign on ot the internet.

As opposed to being a person?
Yes, I am the Thing.
And pinback is going towards a celestial crown that happened to be part of the sky (dazy nights and all that)
I ask for coffee and deserve this.
This desire to move back to the telnet system is intriguing; tell me Jonsey, has the generic and oft chimed wasteland that is the modern interconnection of communications, slowly ground out the mystical idea that has surrounded the ability of any number of people from anywhere on earch, to talk with eachother?
May I suggest climbing a mountain for the purpose of jumping off it?

This link has proved helpful: http://www.dmine.com/bbscorner/telnet.htm
I am going to ask Inky, from the ifMud, who he uses as a host. (Actually, I am presuming he runs the Mud, as he is the most helpful person on it and possibly the most helpful person on God's Green Earth.) That discussion may bear fruit. Hopefully not apples because seriously who wants to hear someone suck down an apple like they had survived a mid-air collision months ago and just found a bag of Granny Smith.

Does the health of this forum contribute to the day to day running that occurs around you? There are over 20,000 posts, around 140 people who have been a part of the community from time to time, and now the move to a telnet BBS?
Isn't this just adding a layer of exclusion to the process of simply, communicating with people?
Recently, I've seen two sites make concentrated efforts, to seperate themselves from forums that didn't "meet the expectations or express the values they wanted associated with their site" and its a curious approach to the whole "I'm busy, feel obligated to this place, so I'm just going to seperate us as a way to make myself feel less committed."
This forum is neat and everything, a place for people to vent feelings and be people they couldn't be else where, except its just a few pages imposed in a few pixels, marked with words that happen to express an idea.
Maybe the whole process that has moved from a place to talk to friends, which has turned into a kind of committment, and is now dissapointing because of a lack of what is expected (that is, posts and content in the form of people taking time to create them expressly for this place) isn't really an important faucet of everything, and will continue to be just a place for friends to gather information and mock eachother?
And with this Telnet move, it appears that its just a way of trying to recreate whats already here?
I've formed an opinion! And now what will I do with it?
