I'm pretty sure that this will be the last thing I need to say in order to bump this onto the second page...

Money is short. I dig MMORPGS. Ultima I believe could of been great had they just put more monsters in less dangerous (PK-wise) areas. The problem is you couldn't build your character up. I though think the engine was the BEST of any MMORPG I ever played. I could dig PSO if I didn't have to pay ... I might be able to pick up a dreamcast cheap.

Ach - As long as your using Dreamkay 2.0 and above you can use a free ISP.

A dreamcast wont be hard to find, neither will PSO - cos they rule baby!!

Aye, anyway as long as you MAKE SURE that you get version 1 you'll have no problemo playing the game for free. I don't know if over in the states is the same as over here but our 2 PSO boxes look retardedly identical, which mean you REALLY have to look for the small2.0 ?underneith the PSO logo.

Damn, I hope that makes sense....

Be warned, we have a Coast to Coast mega-fan on the 'board.

Also: PSO v2 for us comes with Dreamkey built in!!! How's that for modern technolgery? Also: No Dreamkey in the states, they have "Happy Fanhouse Sega Adventure" or the same as the Japanese.

Man, these yanks sure are funny. I once saw one of them say "Jeez..."

Let's PK them :)

I don't understand what the hell you two are talking about.

opz, plz
opz, plz
opz,plz

But instead of that, please answer the following:

1) What is a DreamKey?
2) How do I ensure that I get the right rev of PS:O?
3) What's this shit about a PSO? You guys are playing it with a Playstation, or a Dreamcast? What the hell??!? I own both the original PS, a DC and a PS2. So tell me what console I should buy this thing for. I am presuming a DC.
4) What's the process I need to engage in to get on-line? You fruit loops have convinced me to join up. Basically, presume I don't know a goddamn thing about the game, all games, all consoles, the Internet, broadband adapters, and even have trouble with the numbers "1" and "0," because otherwise I have to spend time doing some research on how to connect, which I don't want to do.

I'll now end this message with the word "geisha" just in case anyone does a search in the future for the word "geisha."

GEISHA!!!

To buy the right version, go into EB and ask for PSO for the Plastation 2.

Or read the box, and buy it for the dreamcast, don't worry about dreamkey - I think its only a brittish thing.

yours might be called dreampassport (its software what let the DC connect to the net it is)

Well, as I was beaten to the Geisha Raper part, I'll just say this;

PSO = "Phantasy", "Star" and "Online". I think this is tripping you up.

Phantasy Star Online is free in the states to play, as it is over here. You can get it for maybe $5.

Phantasy Star Online V2: Is a version of PSO (Remember that?) that has some more levels, the characters are capped at 200 instead of 100, and get more types of Sword, etc., and has battle modes for auto-raping P/Kers and general assholes.

PSO:V2; as it will now be called; is free to play over here, like PSO 1, except that in the 'states, it costs $5 a month to play.

It costs about $25 on google/e-bay, because it is quite rare. (PAL Version, natch; no-one will touch the US version). This means that Phruitcake & I will be playing a superior version of the game (albeit it at a higher price), but one that still communicates perfectly well with your version. It just means that you won't be able to follow us onto some of the later levels. Your character will be capped at 100, instead of 200, etc.

Besides, if your character really does well, and you do decide to pay $5 a month (or get the PAL version ;)) you can always 'port him over (except this port is one-way; once your character becomes a V2 God, he can't go back to V1 Mortality. The VMU fuses.)

That is all long and complicated, but the first bit is the important bit. I went into a rant ;).

OK, I got it.

Some people refer to the original Playstation as the "PSO" right? That's what confused me at first.

If people ARE calling the original Playstation the PSO rather than the PS1 then they deserve nothing less than castration. And/or removal of the ovaries.

Let me ask you this. If I "found" a copy of the original Phantasy Star On-Line and burned it to a CD, would it work? Or is there some authorization that goes on with all of this?

The registration code and the serial number of your Dreamcast become inexplicably linked; once you type in the code at the back of the pack, it won't work on anyone else's machine. So no, copies won't work. Atleast not for online play.

It's a question of finding a copy for $6, which I'm sure you'll find; the only thing to worry about is the broadband adaptor, which sells for $30, but has gone up to 60. In the past. Z0r.

Okay. If you (I presume that was Lex who posted as the guest) see the DC version of the game anywhere, let me know. The best way to get me going on this as quickly as possible is for you (Lex) to do all the legwork and my role be reduced to writing checks.

Hey, did you (Lex) test Roody's game out of respect for the thirty LARGE he gave you? Listen you little pud smoking hobgoblin, don't make me come over there. I'll turn this BBS right around.

You can find pre-owned PSO's for $4.99 here: http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/p ... _id=191202 , but what, it sounds like if they've been used online, they're no good?

The only place that I knew of that offered the broadband adapter (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?catego ... ucts_id=46&) no longer has any, so if someone has a link, I'd be interested.

Y'know, that's a really good point; So far I've had no sucess reaching him again, e-mail wise. It's like his account hates me.

Also: E-bay. Back in a sex.

Also, my game is death.z5 at http://www.plover.net/~ellison/roody2/ , although I'm really only looking for huge bugs now (this is too much of a joke game to care about every little thing).
