He had it coming. Not that the joke wasn't funny. But he should have known twitter is not the place for genuinely funny jokes. It's for fake, shitty jokes.

I am sad she passed, on the other hand she gets to avoid listening to hours of country music tomorrow.

I can't believe Tdarcos outlived RealNC's ability to view images which the rest of us can see.

I would never of heard of this BBS had not Jack Straw been on it absolutely every second in my office, not to mention his stories about the fun he had playing physically networked games at JC parties. Sadly I never partook in any of those gaming parties.

Curious, Ben, how did you find JC?

I was at work at Xerox in Penfield or Webster, NY (I think Webster) and the internet was hooked up to all the machines there in the test lab. (I tested printers. The DocuPrint C55!)

I don't believe I had the internet at home in 1997. Eventually, work got routine enough where I had nothing to do so I typed in a search for text adventures. That led me to I-0, which led me to Adam Cadre's page. I believe either on his home page at the time or in an interview or something he mentioned Pinback, because Pinback had created Apartment F209.

That took me to Ben's webpage where I think I might have written him an email saying hello. I don't remember how it all went from there. Ben might have had a forum that I posted on. I think that must have been it, because this place didn't exist for another 5 years after 1997.

Then we all went to Vegas and I made up an excuse to not go to breakfast with everyone, and that pretty much brings us up to date.

I don't remember the skipping breakfast part, but there was one morning that we were all pretty hungover where we canceled all the idealistic plans we had made the day before so I'm pretty sure we were all in the same boat.

Back around 1994 I was a member of the Bull and Finch Pub BBS, who had several users including Ben (and I can't remember his handle) This went on for a few years, until "the band broke up," and we went our "Separate Ways." I ended up on the Internet, I floated around to various ISP (including getting kicked off one!) 9600 baud (9.6K bps!) was the hot thing on bulletin boards, but 28K baud, and later 56K baud became how people connected to ISPs.

Then came DSL, which was much faster. Nothing like what we have now, of course. If you're throttled because you bought the cheapo $19.95 a month DSL from Verizon, you might get 256K.

This was the general state of affairs until cable companies started offering broadband. Probably 25/5 (25 MB down, 5 MB up). I had had cable company Internet, but I couldn't afford it and had to switch over to DSL, and I missed the really fast speed.

It was back in 2008 when Ben found me because hr found a posting on Usenet with my e-mail address. He probably asked me if I was the Paul Robinson who was on Bull & Finch Pub, and invited me here.
