The new stairs are a lot wider now

This summer's projects are kinda low key. What good is having a new deck if you don't take time to sit and drink on it, right?
One of the things I don't like about the style of construction is the open criss-cross beam design. It was like that when we bought the house. I'm making a custom cover.

First step: put up a pressure treated frame

While I'm at it I might as well replace the hot tub pump. The seals have leaking for a while, probably because we let it freeze up last winter. New stuff should be here in a day

Update:

New pump is in, and after three separate revisits by yours truly, the disgruntled plumbing fairy, has finally stopped leaking. Im going swimming later.

The frame boards have been cut and stained. Putting them up tomorrow. Then I can start on the slats

We have an area under our deck that is fenced in.

We have an oven, waiting for a remodel, and a sink, waiting for a remodel. They are in the garage. We can't park in the garage.

If I got two wooden palettes and wrapped the appliances in a tarp, and placed them on the palettes, they should be fine for a couple years, right? We really gotta be able to park. Your deck photo inspired me to ask.

Are you really going to wait two years or more to remodel the kitchen? When we bought this house we started using the new appliances straight away and basically worked around them. Obviously the sink isn't something you can just drop in and call good if you are going to replace the countertop but that's not such a huge box that it couldn't go into a basement until you need it. My assumption is that the new stove is going in the same space as the old one and it's the same width. Just start using the new stove and free up the garage space before winter, S'what I'd do.

Not only will you be fine, but this type of setup is encouraged!

And you dont want the appliances to last until the remodel is scheduled.

The sink is gonna go into the bathroom downstairs. The guy we know will do it for $1,000. This is probably TMI but the cremation and tree removal ran me $5000. I want to put off another big expense for a bit. I have a lot of ADHD when it comes to projects, too.

The oven does kind of require demo. We had this oven that came with the house, which was two ovens. It was one oven, divided into two parts. This is just one oven. I don't know how we could take the unit we have out and put the new one in without it being this whole thing.

I should also add that I honestly thought I was getting back to normal before the start of July. Right now the thought of lifting a finger to swat a fly is overwhelming.

Yours is good advice, of course! Please know that I appreciate it. Also, yes, if we had a normal kitchen I would absolutely remove the one oven and put the new one there.

So.... I'm thinking Brady Bunch with built-in ovens here. OK, straight up swapping out wouldn't work for you. And you have a new free standing oven because you don't want to live in the Seventies anymore, right?

I didn't know taking the tree out of your Jeep would be so much, sorry for that. Get a roll of that industrial plastic wrap and cover the new stove as much as possible after coating with rust prevention (WD-40). I can send you some if you want.

(Industrial plastic wrap I mean, you can get WD-40 anywhere no problem)

With the ground descending where that opening was, to get even coverage, I'm thinking you're going to need more like 10, maybe 11 slats.

Q: what makes you assume the ground will not be leveled after I finish with the wood?

The South side came out so nice I decided to fill in a section near the hot tub, with a cupboard for the chemicals. Gotta get some of that black iron barn door hardware so's the door can slide open

And I hung the lamp. Changed out the main bulb to led because that 1960s lightbulb beyatch was smoking hot after ten minutes. Now to go watch some Gunsmoke on the Philco television while I mix a cocktail
