Aardvark, the high plains drifter. Driving across hours of mind numbing emptiness towards Mesa.

There was a stop in Winslow, Arizona and it's such a fine sight to see.

However if it wasn't for that song the town would be dead. If you go a block away from that corner it's seriously a desert ghetto.
There was no mention of Jackson Browne anywhere.

The gift shops are overpriced and full of crap trinkets. The coffee shop we stopped in was cool.

A toothless Injun hag wanted a donation for the Hopi tribe, I told her to give it up and assimilate already.

This opening in the wall was the coolest part of Meteor Crater Park.

And we did drive past all those big over-enthusiastic signs that Flack is standing in front of.

After all, it is just a big hole in the ground. How it got there is the interesting part. I was gonna buy an informative DVD but then I realized I could learn just as much about it on Wikipedia. Gotta love information delivery.

The gift shop is overpriced crap. Such is tourist life.

This is an old copper mine in Jerome.

I got my timeline all messed up , its been a long day. Started out with breakfast in Cottonwood, went up 7000 feet into Jerome, (think Brady Bunch in the old west episode with cousin Oliver)
Drove to the Meteor Crator then to Winslow and finally down to Mesa

Here's the route we drove yesterday, more or less. And yes I am using paper maps as well as my phone for navigating, call me old or old- school, it works.

The picture I shared is from 1994 -- the infamous "let's drop out of college and take a road trip out west" trip.

Meteor Crater is interesting but there's only so much you can do there. ("Look at that, a big hole. Huh.") My favorite part the last time we were there was the big [urlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event]Tunguska event[/url] exhibit.

I came home from the gift shop with a piece of petrified dinosaur poop.

I was going to buy an authentic hunk of meteorite rock for twenty dollars but then realized I can just pick up a piece of rock by the side of the road and TELL everyone it's a piece of meteorite rock. None of my friends are geologists and I'll use the twenty bucks I saved to buy beers.

Maybe that's what the gift shop supply people were trying to do to me? I don't know magnetite from copralite, it's all just rocks to me.

Our next home away from home. Another quality Air B&B. Renter people tend to leave stuff behind when they stay at places like these but this is the first rental experience that I've ever seen booze left behind. The last place, with the orange stove, had a liter of Absolut lemon vodka in the freezer. This place has half a sixpack of Corona longnecks ready for me. I love the laid back atmosphere here!

I found this space rock inside meteor crater park. It came from the Oort Cloud, a bazillion miles away, NOT from the side of the driveway in Mesa rental house. Nope, outer space rock here, Oort Cloud relic.
