I know that the characters on BB are very human, but ... well, what I think we learned is that a married man can turn into a vicious criminal mastermind and multiple murderer & people will still root for him.
If his wife bangs her boss she will be viewed as a irredeemable bitch for the rest of recorded human history (by some).

BTW, here's what I hate about Breaking Bad season 5: The way they changed the lighting in the White's house so it's always dark to match the mindset of the characters. God, that is such hacky filmschool horseshit.

I actually enjoyed the ending. If I'm not mistaken the first episode started with him at the logging site also. You have to admit, it would totally have sucked if his character ended up arrested or dead, and ultimately, he did grow a conscience and knew the best thing to do would be to walk away. And if he died, then he wouldn't have to live with everything he did. Though leaving his kid with another psychopath rather than say... his sister, was at least slightly perplexing.
As for the series being unbelievable- DUH the dude was SURROUNDED by murder, yet all of his coworkers were oblivious? Then again- sometimes you just don't know. *shrug* Hated that they killed Deb off though =(
