Re: The Quake II: Jailbreak EXPERIMENT
Argh! Saw that too late.
Do we want to shoot for 8:30PM Eastern time to see if we can all get on and try it out? I am guaranteed to be home by then, but I can write if I get out earlier.

8:30 EST tomorrow (Tuesday) totally works for me. Even if we don’t have many players we should kick the tires a bit.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2020 8:36 pm Argh! Saw that too late.

Re: The Quake II: Jailbreak EXPERIMENT
Alright guys..
Sorry for the rough start there. This is an old game and my first time running a server with this mod. However, I think I have all our issues fixed now!
1. Map voting enabled
2. Think I fixed the random client drop thing. It was something stupid. Apparently, the shortcut I made to start the server pointed to the old quake2 binary rather than the modern yamagi binary. MY BAD!
3. Options / Download Options / Download player models and skins <- Toggle this to on if you have to download jailbreak models/textures from the server. (ie; if you didn't download the mod files to copy to quake2/jail
I'm looking forward to the next game now that we have the issues worked out.

And a last bit of polish:
- Maxplayers fixed. Was set higher than 8 but was defaulting on server start. Now server starts with 16 max players
- Updated master server setting in config. Now you'll see us listed as "Jolt Country Jailbreak" at http://q2servers.com/

Re: The Quake II: Jailbreak EXPERIMENT
Well I had fun. I'd give the Jailbreak Test Run 7 out of 10 grenades.
Minus a point for kicking me off every ten minutes or so and minus one point because there were only three players with microphones. Also minus a point because I really suck at FPS and spent a LOT of time languishing in jail because I got fragged every five seconds.
Pinback hates quake 2 and keeps on reminding everyone how much it sucks. I prefer to look on the positive side and think of it as a gathering of friends, much like the Dukematches of yore.
So when is the next one?

I didn't hate Quake 2, I just hated what it was doing to us.

Re: The Quake II: Jailbreak EXPERIMENT
It was bringing us together for fun and whimsy, why do you hate that?
Actually, it was making all of us frustrated by the really pointless and counter-productive controls. I believe Quake 2 should get a mention in the Great Moments in Programming History for the most ridiculous settings interface. The (not) saving settings thing and the use+ key (which doesn't exist) are but two examples.

Re: The Quake II: Jailbreak EXPERIMENT
Well, in defense of Quake 2.. the turret control thing is mod-related! Hell, the saving your settings may be for all I know too because I've never had that problem either. Then again, I guess it's hard to properly close out of the game to hopefully save those settings when you were randomly getting kicked heh.
Glad you had fun. Glad Robb recommended this mod. You guys should try my favorite mod(s) on my server some day.. but for now I like what's going on here. Want to shoot for around 8:30 again tomorrow (Thursday)? I figured today people wanted to do other things.

Actually looks like the next "official" game will be this weekend. I'll hop on today though about 8:30 and hang out a while to see if anyone joins.

Re: The Quake II: Jailbreak EXPERIMENT
A few of us got on but it was laggy as hell to the point of being instantly unplayable.
I really want to preserve Jailbreak. I don't know anyone who can get on for that other server, tastyserver or whatever, because it looks for an anticheat dll that we all have but it doesn't recognize it, so F that.
AND I am extremely appreciative for what Jizaboz did in setting it up. I can't get to the server from my main PC due to dumb shit MS pulled in making RDP not backwards compatible. So I don't know what the answer is. The game is so old, one of the reasons I thought this would be a good idea was because I thought it would be lightning quick on everyone's machines. So frustrating.

Re: The Quake II: Jailbreak EXPERIMENT
Thank you friend. It's the mod and the fact that we must use use Windows to run it.
I propose we keep this Jail AMI going and work out the kinks best we can.. but I'm thinking you will have to come to the dark side. Abandon your mod friend, and I will show you the *nix ways of a fast and responsive no bullshit Quake2 server.
