You Don't Know Flack Podcast:
Have you seen this, Flack?

CBS and NBC Universal sued by company claiming it owns the patent on podcasting

The company, Personal Audio, "won an $8 million lawsuit against Apple in the [Eastern] District [of Texas]," an area considered very friendly to patent lawsuits. They claim it cost them millions to figure out how to do podcasting. Yeah, right, putting up files for downloading wasn't a function available as far back as FTP back, oh, about 1973.

What's next, patenting how to shit?

Well, you certainly have invented a rather novel approach to the whole matter.

I have seen that, and have been following it closely. I don't understand how the courts allow those things to happen. People are allowed to file for patents retroactively and then sue people using free technology? Someone should put a stop to that. The only saving grave for people like me is that being such small, small, tiny low hanging fruit, they wouldn't make any money from suing a person like me. Instead they sue Apple and companies in the middle and people making money off of their shows. It's a racket that someone should put a stop to for sure.

Bribes?

Hey fella, there's too much money there, and where people smell money, it ain't long before campaign contributions come along so they can get a piece of that pie that's about as fat as ol' Ironside you're talkin' to.
The only saving grave for people like me is that being such small, small, tiny low hanging fruit,
Don't dismiss low hanging fruit, if they have even the slightest smell of money or influence to manipulate others (or both) they might go after that, too.
they wouldn't make any money from suing a person like me.
No, but it might be useful later on to make other people go along, if they pick a strategy like RIAA's new book, "How to Sue Customers and Influence People (Into Going to Indy Music)." That lady Debbie Foster ain't got no money but the RIAA sued her for a judgment for a ton of money she ain't never gonna have over file sharing. Probably figure they can scare other people into not doing it, or use it to continue extorting it out of people in "settlement" agreements. Settle or get sued.
Instead they sue Apple and companies in the middle and people making money off of their shows. It's a racket that someone should put a stop to for sure.
Hey fella, you got the money to pay campaign contributions? If not, best you start finding ways to get people to try and run against some of these sick sons-a-bitches who are in the pockets of the people who make money off this.

Episode 134 is Online.

Episode 134 of You Don't Know Flack tells the story of my pseudo Commodore 64 cracking group from the 1980s, the OK Krackers (OKK). (Listen to the episode to see why I used the word "pseudo".) In this rambling excuse for an episode I end up reminiscing quite a bit about the days of trading games over the modem through BBSes.

Episode 135 is Online.

Say a prayer and grab the Holy water — today’s episode is all about backmasking in music, those backwards subliminal messages hidden both intentionally and unintentionally in rock music during the 1970s and 80s. In this episode I’ll talk about what started this phenomenon, the course it ran, and what effect (if any) it had on innocent music fans such as myself.

Episode 137 is Online.

On Episode 137 of You Don’t Know Flack I delve into the history of Soulz at Zero, the lit group I founded back in the mid-1990s. If you don’t know what a lit group is (or was), you’re in for a real treat. And by treat I mean almost 90s minutes of me babbling.

Episode 138 is Online.

You Don't Know Flack is back with another episode! In this episode, I wax nostalgic about my days with the Atari 2600. You'll get to hear about many of the games I grew up playing, whether or not I still collect Atari 2600 games, and why Keystone Kapers holds special meaning to me. Also in this episode I experimented with some noise cancelling plug-ins, so I'd love to hear what you think about that.

Episode 139 is Online.

Last week I visited the Galloping Ghost arcade just outside of Chicago, Illinois. You can hear all about the arcade and my time there in episode 139 of You Don’t Know Flack! Also in this episode I compare the Ghost to some of the other retro arcades I’ve visited recently, including Funspot, the Arkadia Retrocade, and 1984. The “Loading Time” section of this episode is a little longer than I had hoped but, eh, sometimes loading a podcast off of a Commodore Datasette takes a while.

Episode 140 is Online.

In previous episodes of You Don’t Know Flack I’ve talked both about arcades and my own personal arcade collection. In Episode 140, I talk about how and why I ended up parting with that collection. My book about collecting arcade games was titled Invading Spaces so I thought it would be appropriate to titled this one Reclaiming Spaces. Owning all those games took up a lot of space, and it wasn’t until I began to part with them that I regained all that space.

Great episode. Assuming that things don't go horribly wrong, I am going to be going through the same thing in a few months.

A week from now I'll have 17 games. I can't imagine life without a single one of them. I also can't imagine moving a single one of them, or getting a single one of them up the stairs. God.

God.

Stairs complicate things for sure. Whenever I see people who have basement arcades I just imagine how much my back hurt after moving just one machine up or down a few steps, much less an entire flight.

Episode 141 is Online.

In Episode 141, I talk about my infatuation with the new(ish) credit card-based computer, the Raspberry Pi. In this show I talk about what the Raspberry Pi is, what it's capable of doing, and some of the more interesting uses for this $35 computer. Also on this episode I moved my microphone around and introduced some weird and annoying microphone noises to the show. You're welcome.

I think you mean credit card-sized.

Here's the case I made for mine:

I did NOT make a case yet, which means that the cats will knock coffee onto it.

I really gotta get another HDMI monitor so I can have the Pi up all the time.

Bruce, that is fantastic! There is no one on the planet that will defend defacing a Pac-Man cart. I bought two of the pop-tart carriers so I may give making straight cuts one more try. They're only $2 each at Big Lots but if I go back and buy 10 of them I'm sure someone there will turn me in to DHS assuming I am sending my kid to school every day with 20 pop-tarts.

Between my u1541, the Pi, and that new FPGA computer I'm looking at, that'll be three things like this I've bought that didn't come in a case. I bought a Pi case for $7. If these stupid things just came with a case and they added $20 to the price I would be fine with that.
