I hate running. I love walking
It gets way better the more often you run (6 times a week now, 1 hour per day.) At first it was torture, then it was a chore, then it was meh, then kinda OK, now I can't wait to get out there.

I used to hate the idea of going to the gym, and now I do somewhat look forward to it, so I kinda see what you're saying.
But I'm headed there momentarily, and the thought of running is so... mEH.

People better be buying stock in Hot Nikos right now, because pretty soon, nobody is going to be able to get in there.

Today, I am officially down 20 pounds from when I had a mental crybaby meltdown over the summer. It's not the best progress possible, but it's mine, so I will take one quick post to note it please and see if I can do the next 20 in less time.

The others here might hate us because we're not fatasses anymore. We're in the hot and sexy club now.

Nice job!
I am also down 20 since mid-November. Short-term goal is 10 more. Then I will re-evaluate.

The fact that you are doing this, while also, If I understand correctly, on the road watching your kid play hockey is pretty dang great. I feel like every restaurant just has a giant cauldron of butter and salt bubbling at all times and they are actively trying to kill us.

Well, normally I try to stay in a hotel with a gym, so that I can get in a proper workout.
Unfortunately, the closest chain hotel to my kid is about 30 minutes away, so I end up staying in an AirBnb and not having access to a gym.
I did manage to get in enough of a walk one day last week to get the equivalent of one decent workout in. That did not, however, offset 2 days of driving (no exercise), 1 day of "its too fuckng cold snow and windy outside", and 1 day of "I'm too busy". So last week's trip was a slight setback on the journey. But back at it again today.

I have hit a plateau. So I will try one more week of doing what I know works, and then I am going to order that fluid everyone's been injecting into themselves to try to get around the plateau.

What kind of exercise are you doing? Eating well, by itself, is only going to get you so far. You may have gotten to a point where your calorie burn = intake.

Hit submit too early, cant edit this forum.
I used to burn about 130 calories per mile. Now I'm down to 85. It SUCKS. Much harder to hit my calorie goals now. Gonna force me to run more. I hate running.

Just walking and light jogging :/

Wait, why is it less? Because you are getting more efficient at it? This sounds terrible! I want to be less efficient!

One reason is weight loss. When I was 242lbs I was burning more calories when running compared to the 207lbs I weigh now. Which is kind of obvious. To burn about the same amount, I would now have to wear 35lbs worth of running weights when running.
Another way to burn more calories is resistance training to build more muscle mass. The more you have, the more calories you burn while doing nothing. Getting buff means it's harder to get fat since you burn more calories even when just sitting and sleeping. I am not doing that though. Running is fine. I enjoy it.

Which is great, depending on how much you do. How much are you doing? I shoot for 5 miles per day when it's nice out. Once I get shoved into Planet Fitness, it turns into 3.5 miles (but I do add strength training). It takes a lot of walking to burn off any meaningful calories. (Jogging does add them up faster)

Exactly. My resting heart rate has dropped from the low 70s to mid 50s. My blood pressure has dropped about 10/5. My body doesn't have to work as hard while I'm walking, so it burns less calories. Its nice, but sucks at the same time.

This is the piece I'm struggling with. To build muscle, I need more protein. To get more protein, I need more calories. I can't run a 750 calorie deficit while eating more protein.
Once I get to my target weight, and I can add those calories back to my diet, I will try to focus on eating more protein and adding muscle.

Just to circle back on this! So right now my goal is 6200 steps a day. I have been upping it every couple of weeks by a little and this month, March, is the first one where I am 24/24 making the goal each day. I end up hitting more because once I get to the goal (and my phone gives me the dopamine of being successful at something) I still lead my life normally. Looking at my app, which is connected to my watch and phone, I am at 7353 steps on average for the last 7 days, 7122 steps for the last 31 days and 5815 steps a day since I got my watch from Melissa in September (I started going serious at all of this in July).
I think I am walking just over 3 miles a day on average according to the apps.
