Which do you say/type?

My entire like I have said "all of a sudden." My wife says "all of the sudden." I had never noticed this but now I hear people say "all the sudden," too. Which do you say? Which is right?

From a non-native English speaker's perspective, 1 sounds right, 2 and 3 sound wrong.

From a native English speaker's perspective, 1 IS right, and 2 and 3 are fucked up.
