The ArPiCade

I found $100 in my wallet when I checked it after the wedding. Not sure what it was doing in there or who it was supposed to go to, but I may attach fifty bucks to it and get an ArPiCade.

What is an ArPiCade? Well, Jizaboz has one and likes it. My understanding is that it allows you to use a Raspberry Pi with a JAMMA arcade cabinet. I've got a horizontal one that I use for various boards (I had Ghosts n' Goblins in it if you've been to my house recently, which a few of you have) but I also put the jrok Berzerk board in it and some others. So this is a great solution for me.
I have a question for Jizaboz, if you're out there - did you have them program the software for $45 or do that yourself?

I debated this all of about 10 minutes. Part of me really wanted to do it myself, but I'm glad I did not. It saves a ton of time and that 45$ does at least include the price of the micro SD card itself. Includes a very nice front end program that loads random screenshots, etc.. and I love how once you enter a game it will not exit back out to the menu until you tell it to by holding down player 1 start for 10 seconds then hitting player 2 start.
Totally worth the 45$ extra in my opinion. However, I strongly encourage you to do what I did and before you even start the damn thing, CAREFULLY create an image file of that SDcard with a Windows machine. Store the original somewhere you will NEVER LOSE IT. Finally, go to Walgreens and pick up a new microSD 32gb card for like 15$, and write that image you created to your new card. This way, you have not 1 but 2 backups.
Why create a backup? Besides the always present risk of data corruption due to power failure or whatever, you'll probably want to tweak your settings on a few games, the menu, etc and there is no "factory reset". Re-loading the image is your reset. I've ran into a few nagging things like left and right shoot in Gunsmoke being reversed and I can't move at all in Krull or Cloak N Dagger. Sometime I need adjust the config files on the SDcard to fix this. (using joystick/button in MAME menu does't seem to work for input config) Also, they (HighSaveScores) will put out updated images eventually with more games or better support!

So the rest of us can buy the cheaper version and just get the image from you, right? :)

I would never do that, but I am gonna get the ArPicade shortly as in within a month, and then I'll let everyone know how it goes.
I might do that.
No, I will pay them their money, they built a good product and deserve it.
I'll let Tdarcos decide. Tdarcos! Decide!

I stopped pirating software once I got to the point I had a decent income.
Pay the two dollars.

In this case we are talking ROMs that I certainly do not own ever PCB for, so I think I basically PAID to "pirate" them!

You do know that all the software is arcade roms that the developers of arpicade didn't make, right? Of course you dont.

Just in case anyone drops by here through a search - we are kidding about this, we aren't going that route and the point of the thread is to get Tdarcos to make decisions for the rest of us. I just wanted to clarify that.
I am placing my order later today. Whoo hoo!

Words cannot do this justice. It is AMAZING. I was playing Dragon's Lair and Paperboy five minutes after I opened the package up. This is absolutely the coolest thing I have tried out in quite some time. I'll try to post some video or more words soon.

I would like an update on how this and perhaps other games in your arcade are 'behaving'.

The ArPiCade is amazing. I've mostly been playing Hat Trick, still. Just when I think I can dominate the game, I find myself losing 4-3 with 10 seconds left. Can I score??

Just out of curiosity, does the cabinet you have your ArPiCade have 2 speakers or just one?
(Trying to diagnose why Dragons Lair 1 is the only laser disk game that doesn't have full audio on mine)

I did hear all the audio I would expect for Dragon's Lair. It's got just one speaker.

To correct the record:
(via IRC)
ICJ discovered upon closer inspection that the cabinet running his ArPiCade does indeed have 2 speakers. Looks like "it's a stereo issue" theory is confirmed!
