AArdvark goes South for vacation
It's that time of year again, when the flies swallow west for Cappuccino and AArdvark goes on vacation.
This year it's the Outer Banks and we're driving. Theres no way we could drive it in one shot so there's an overnight in Fredericksburg (where we are now) I'm giving Flack serious props for driving all over these great United States, two hours in a car without a break is horrible. My brother drove straight thru to Montana a couple months ago and it didn't bother him at all. Me no can do. And traffic congestion around D.C....well you all know how that is'
As Americans we have a lot to answer for. There are miles and miles of franchise stores, as far as the eye can see.

Outer banks is our favorite vacation spot in the lower 48. Have fun!
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

There seems to be solid traffic from Newport News all the way to Nags Head. It's me, Im just not used to traffic of any sort. Ever since I moved to the country I have not experienced traffic or noise in any quantity. This was two days worth all at once.

I know what you mean. After about twelves hours your brain kind of goes into auto-pilot mode and--AArdvark wrote: Fri Aug 12, 2022 4:00 pm This year it's the Outer Banks and we're driving. Oh you are out there in one of the most touristy NC beach spots in one of the most touristy times of the year.. GOD SPEED sir lol. That shit was crowded even 20+ years ago. Still, I kind of miss a few things about that area assuming they haven't completely changed by now. Also, if you are still going to be there Tuesday then restaurants and roads shouldn't be half as crowded as the weekend.

We've landed. The house is really nice. Took a quick look at the beach and sea last night. I brought my laptop so I can type updates and stuff. More later

The Atlantic ocean. My wife, in a fit of giddiness, suggested the we stay and watch the sun set over the water. I explained about the East-West direction thing and suggested that we go back to the house and see what was in that box I bought at the ABC store

St. Bernards love the water and they love collecting sand in their tail fur.

Saw this door outside of the booze store when I was leaving and had to take a picture.

Apparently there's a correlation between ten thousand vacationing tourists and liberal amounts of alcohol on a big sandy island to the point that the need a whole division of the police to deal with

They leave games and puzzles in the rental places in case of bad weather. I found this moral-dilema game and stumbled across this interesting card. This was printed way before 2016...

Haha Duck! Once when I was much younger I went into one of the public bathrooms out there near a park where we were having a picnic. Started to sit down on a toilet in a stall and OH SHIT, SNAKE!! right there in the corner by the toilet. Ran out of there like the Flash lol
Did you or are you gonna visit the really long pier in Nagshead? There used to be a HUGE arcade, pool tables and bar right there connected to it but I'd think it's change a lot since then.

The Dunes, It's a state park. Somebody figured out that they should preserve part of the Outer Banks in the pristine state that it was, before the humans with their t-shirt shops and ice cream stands paved over everything

Spent today at the beach. And what a beach! Whoo! Knees aren't what they used to be, got tumbled in the surf like a washing machine cycle. Gonna try boogie boarding later in the week when I recover. Haven't done it since '86, hope I dont drown. It wasn't half crowded like it was on Saturday. Glad all the weekenders left.
