I eat a lot of red grapefruit. So tart and delicious and healthy! While I was eating my latest one, I had a flashback to like forty years ago, living at home, and I remember that my mom and stepdad-du-jour would eat grapefruits like this:

1. Slice it in half.
2. Put the slice face-up into a little bowl.
3. Take this tiny weird spoon with little tongs on the end (like a tiny spork) and dig the stuff out of each section, daintily putting each spoonful in their moufs.

Do people still do this? Is this just a redneck/old person thing? I can't even conceive of doing something that useless, but maybe people still do it?!?! Do people still eat grapefruits by digging each section with a tiny, tiny spork?!?

I have to know.

I have never intentionally consumed a grapefruit in either solid or liquid form. Or gas, or plasma.

I dislike grapefruit. My bp meds even say to avoid it so it must be as bad for you as it tastes. My grandmother also had those special grapefruit spoons, which I coveted but never got to use to eat my Honeycombs with.

"It's a grapefruit spoon," she would say. "You don't eat cereal with it."

Well I was one for thinking outside of the box, even at an early age, never minding the impropriety of the thing. It just would have been cool.

I am going to buy extra grapefruits today to spite you people.

It's bad for blood pressure? That's crazy to me that a fruit is bad for us in that way.

It basically disables the meds is what my doctor (ex) told me. I never liked the flavor so there were no problems.

You understand, I'm talking about "red" grapefruits, those deliciously tangy, sweet orbs of goodness, not the bitter white ones you are probably thinking about.

The world of grapefruits has moved on. Time to catch up.

Don't know the difference. I didn't know about white zucchini either so I can't be a reliable source of information. Every grapefruit I've ever tried makes a Nuclear Sour Patch candy taste like oatmeal. Tart and bitter are pale descriptions of the paint thinner taste ( and I've tried paint thinner on a dare! )

I eat and drink quite a bit of grapefruit. Mostly the latter so I chose "other". I usually just use an old school orange juicer to juice it with the pulp and drink it. Just less work and faster than eating each wedge.

Do any of the other options generally match how you eat them when you eat them? Since the question was "how do you eat grapefruits" and you eat grapefruits?

Pick fruits everyone likes to eat, like beer fruit or martini fruit...Commander excluded of course. Brussels sprouts and grapefruits are trying to kill us all and take over the biosphere. You didn't know that but it's true. Horribly true.

I can, but I prefer to drink them. Yes, TECHNICALLY I should have chose I don't eat grapefruits. Maybe? Is that the right answer? I never got a chance to study for this one!

The man drinks! You'd think he'd have some sympathy for that around here??

You said you do eat grapefruits. You said it right up there on my screen. The question was how.

I voted for 'other' because I generally have not eaten grapefruit after my sister lied to me and told me fresh-squeezed is actually sweet. I tried some, and I discovered otherwise. Grapefruit is sweet the way the Sahara has flooding problems.

Besides that, as Aardvark pointed out, he can't take them because of high blood pressure meds. I wasn't sure myself whether I could even take them. I suspect I probably could not anyway, considering all the medications I'm taking, including that pink chalk stuff = actually I believe it's a type of plastic - that I take because of high potassium. I can't even drink orange juice because it will raise my potassium level.
