Computer science has advanced to the point that most games can be played in windows, instead of full-screen. Have you made the jump?

Hum. Diablo 2 was windowed 'cause it was only 640 X ? graphics. Mafia 2 was full screen. L.A. Noir was PS3 only.

Since those are the only games I've really played in the last fifteen years I'm having a hard time picking only one choice

Windowed for me. I play a lot of older games designed to run in 4:3, and running them in full screen (16:9) screws up the display. Even when playing more modern games, I like to be able to see if I have new email. If I have the choice, it's windowed for me.

Full screen. Windowed mode (including "borderless" fake full screen) forces the game's output to be composited by DWM (Dektop Window Manager). This introduces one frame of delay which makes the mouse feel a little bit more sluggish.

There's exceptions to this, because depending on the frame presentation model the game uses it's possible to bypass DWM (by using the DXGI flip model for bordeless and multiplane overlays for normal windowed mode), but most of the time it just doesn't work. The stars have to align in a way apparently only Microsoft can figure out.)

And finally, VRR (gsync and freesync) tends to stutter in windowed mode.

So true full screen is still better right now.

Changing my answer to windowed only because the new video card skips and slows Mafia 2 in full screen
