Throwin in the towel

Well that little experiment went south pretty fucking quick. I'll tell ya, starting a consulting company in the middle of a pandemic isn't the easiest thing to do in the world. If working for one startup is toxic, multiple ones at a time are exponentially worse. Not sure why clients think they can wait till a week after the invoice hits to tell me they ran out of money or change qualification criteria unilaterally but fuck'em. Decided to go get an actual job again.
Luckily I found a linkedin job ad with a company that does the same thing as me (except 5 years successfully), cold called the president and got hired on the spot, promoted to manager in 2 days so that's a relief.
Only mentioning this because due to less stress I should be in a much better mood around here going forward, i.e. somewhat less of an asshole.

Clients are the worst. You are a good man and a brave one for taking the journey to try to run your own business. I have, at times thought that I could probably set up a QA consulting thing with some colleagues of mine but at the end of the day it is incredible to me that other companies and corporations can just shrug and not pay you your fucking money. There is a huge problem in this country and the rest of the western world as far as I know. Pulling that shit when the money is in the bank ought to get your legs broken.
I will defer on talking about the bullshit that is "+30" or net 90 or whatever it is called. I would imagine they tried that shit on you too.

Thanks but if I was brave I would've done it sooner when I had some savings. I'm a coward, not as much so as my dad though so thats something.

Robert Ringer is the author of a number of books, especially about business, and he said there are almost only three kinds of customers in business - business transactions.
- Those that will say nothing, then cheat you on payments.
- Those that tell you upfront they will cheat you on payments.
- Those that are nice until they get what they wanted, then are sorry to tell you that due to unforeseen circumstances, they are unable to pay you right now. These are the worst ones to get stuck with.
He tells about a guy he shadowed for who had a supplier, customer, or business partner who was in Chapter 11 and desperately needed something. If the guy he was shadowing didn't get the terms he wanted he'd walk away until he got them. The other guy was over a barrel, he effectively signed away his company if he couldn't fulfill the terms of the contract, otherwise he'd be okay.
After the other guy left, Robert says to his mentor that he hoped the guy would be successful. The man smiled and said, "He won't. He didn't read it. He was already in default of the contract terms when he signed it."
