Jolt Country

Spent today browsing Jolt Country, reading the next book in the Earthsea Cycle, and "curated" my feed on Reddit so I wouldn't end up on the generic front page.

No news is as they say, good news.

Will hasn't been sapped. One day more!

What do you hate about that site?

Alot of things. The pertinent one is that being exposed to nothing, but negative news (such is the world) was driving me batty and Reddit is the one source for it I visit on a regular basis aka what kids are calling Doooooooooooooom scrolling.

Trying to break the mental lock and general despair that creeps in on me as I read about whatever Supreme Court decision was just handed down, how the Far Right are about to get a super majority in France, and any number of other awful things happening to shape the world for the rest of our life times.

I mean, when even the "uplifting news" channels amount to what is being posted in /r/ A Boring Dystopia, somethings gotta give and at this point it'll be better if it isn't anymore of my mental health and well being.

Those are pretty much the reasons I gotta give it up to. Well, except for the France part; I am confident that they have enough guillotines in their basements that their prick politically charged assholes won't get too egregious.

I wish! Those rusty blades will likely be for those gosh darn terrible Lefties and Centralists.

Good vibes aside, I accidentally happened upon Reddit but instead of scrolling through, logged into my account that thankfully returns an empty / white front page. Discovered this is the best way to keep my muscle memory from fooling me.

Otherwise played some games, did some work, watched some shows, and kinda just lagged around. Am settling in to read more of the third book in the Earthsea Cycle. Overall: a (sort of) good day!

I turned off all of my news intake last October and have felt much better overall. In a way it's fun to discover stuff that happened but has zero impact on a daily basis

Had a bit of a relapse today after typing reddit into a "non-protected" browser and saw a story I probably shouldn't / didn't want to see. Going to distract by watching some teevee! Otherwise the webpage felt... Foreign... Which is a positive in my trying to abstract my day to day away from The News.

Reddit is a hive mind circle-jerk lol

Yesterday was a good day! Only glanced at the Reddit "Front Page" for a few seconds by accident. Instead found other "distractions" and things to do such as reeeeeeeeeeeeead. Man, I've missed reading.

Week long streak OVER! Do'h... Don't feel better for having seen the Front Page only because yeah, I know what is happening, and I know what is going to happen. Glad it is at least being documented somewhere in some form....

Sure, Elon is a douche. We know that. Mark Cuban? Worse in my opinion. But wow man this sounds awful!

However, if you listened to the podcast episode mentioned (I doubt most did) the dude didn’t say anything close to the holocaust never happened or Hitler was an OK guy. Very much the opposite. The dude being interviewed has read more history books than all of the circle jerk idiots commenting combined lol.

Elon wouldn't hang out with any of us nor would we want to, he's a billionaire Jack Straw. Say what you will about Cuban, he's self made, he's a Democrat, and id go back to his stadium to watch a game and have a beer with him.

Cuban isn't self made though: he sold a "television platform" to Yahoo during the dot com bust for a few hundred million.

I'll rescind my accusation and restate it: he was extremely (as he put it) lucky much less by hedging the bets against Yahoo. The cleverness I'd argue is being in the same room as the potential to "earn" that amount of moohla.
