SPENCERPORT, N.Y. (WROC) — Coming to Spencerport this Saturday, is a new all-ages hangout: Eric’s Retro Arcade! It’s at 38 Slayton Avenue, right across from the Tops. The business is open Wednesday through Sunday, from the afternoon until evening.
Eric Vazquez, the owner, has built a cozy spot with original arcade games from the late 70s into the mid-80s.
This is a renewed passion for him. He loved arcade games as a kid, took a break, and when his landscaping business took off, he began buying them.
He eventually ran out of space to store them, recalling that he had a “full house” of arcade games… So he turned this passion into a business.
At “ERA,” all the machines are free to play, but you pay a $15 ticket when you come in. Candy and soda are for sale, and Vazquez is building the event and console gaming space in the back.
His soft opening started last weekend.
“I’m really excited actually… The love and support we’re getting from the community is truly truly amazing,” he said. “I posted originally when I was interested in pursuing this on the Spencerport community blog… And we’re seeing a lot of love, it’s really cool.”
The grand opening is this Saturday starting at 2 p.m., and Vazuqez will have some free pizza on hand.
Vazquez is no slouch at playing the games either. He told News 8 that is he No. 7 in the world on the arcade game “Popeye.”
As the business continues to grow, Vazquez plans to have a number of notable arcade gamers come and visit the store.
One of those gamers, Billy Mitchell — best known for his perfect score at Pac-Man and his role in the “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” documentary — even sent Vazquez a video congratulating him on his opening
