Goddamnit. My dad, as many people know, owns a small television production company, and before that, was a sound engineer. As such, he knows everybody worth knowing.

I now realise I wasn't badgering him enough; I was expecting backstage tickets to be my nice birthday surprise, but, alas, that did not happen. He knew he could get them, but it was "too much effort" when it was easier to "watch it on TV".

GODDAMNIT.

What my dad fails to realise is that this is the one chance I will have to live life like he did when he was young. Unlike in the 'states, the MTV Awards happen at a different venue in a different country each year over here;

MTV will never come to Edinburgh again. I have missed my chance. I could have cought a glimpse of Beyonce, so obvious here because there are so few black people in Scotland, or been quiet & polite to lackys of Britney Spears, but now I won't even get the chance.
My dad used to play with Queen, and left that band 3 months before they hit the big-time. I have some of the really old Vinyl albums in my house. During that stage of his life, he met all sorts of Wild And Out There People(TM).
Can't he realise what it'd mean to me, to be in a room with people like that? My dad, the man who once told Bob Marly that his band "stunk, in a literal meaning of the word", and that he should "Wash his hair", apparently feels that I don't deserve a chance to be rude to celebrities. Ever.

Why does it matter so much to you to be in a room with famous people? Does it matter to you WHY they're famous? Very few modern music stars, least of all someone like Beyoncé or Britney, have actually DONE anything worth noting. I fail to understand the importance that you place on celebrity, and upon Knowing People. I know it's who you know, not what you can do, that gets you places in life - but why SUPPORT that awful notion?

Good damn point, it's refreshing to hear somebody say that. Not too long ago I was in a local upscale bar when Tom Jones came in with his manager. Everyone else in the bar was too "star struck" to go up to him and have a real conversation. I mean, what's wrong with these people - he's not even that big a star. My girlfriend and I ended up talking with him and his manager most of the night about everything from the music business to london. My girlfriend even ended up singing for him at the end of the night.

People should realize that stars are no more special than you are - their shit stinks too.

Not only did you manage to put someone down for wanting to have an exciting evening in Scotland, National Motto: 'Sometimes Things Happen', but then you managed to completely negate your own point by disclosing that you were special enough to talk to one yourself for many hours, and you still managed to put people down that were too scared to talk to him themselves.

So, is Lex to be shat upon for wanting to do something more interesting than bundling up piles of heather for kindling one night and maybe meeting some people that have seen more of the world and done things that he has never and will never do, or is he to be shat upon because, unlike you, he can't see past the stars in his eyes and decide to just sit home and not fret that he might be missing something interesting? Seems like he's wrong if he goes, and wrong if he doesn't go. 'Course, either way he's not going, because his Dad died in Miami and this is just his path of denial in order to not accept that he'll never again have the change to make his father proud of him, the whining little litter-runt.

I didn't say I was special, YOU did. In fact the point is that anybody could have gone up to him and had a conversation if they wanted to. Yes, I did manage to put down people who are completely star struck by an aging Las Vegas lounge singer whose main claim to fame was stuffing his pants so women would swoon.

But Lex shouldn't want to be in a room with people, who, regardless of whether or not that are Starzz, Special, or Better, might actually also be rather interesting to talk to, be wearing cool clothes, or be slightly more interesting than sitting at home? You can't down someone for wanting to wanting to attend an event that comes along once in a lifetime, and then use as an example of why he shouldn't a story in which you did exactly what he wants to do, i.e., just talk to some random people that look cool and have interesting stories. Hell, I'd even go to something like that if I were free and had tickets that were given to me. Why not?

I'd probably go too as long as:
1) it was free
2) i had nothing else to do that night
3) i didn't have to listen to Britney or Madonna sing

I don't want to down Lex for wanting to go to an interesting event, if i missed out on free tickets to a unique event then i'd be dissapointed too. I just wanted to elaborate on what Kezaaaaaa said about people who think that celebrities are more special or interesting than anybody else. In fact, Tom Jones was less interesting and special than he thought he was and I would never have gone out of my way to talk to him - he just happened to be standing next to me at the bar. Of course there are celebrities who are intersting to talk to but if you put them on a pedestal then you are putting yourself down. If you act like a groupie when you approach a celebrity then you can't have a real conversation with them anyway.

I have found that I am often able to discuss religion in consistent, agreeable terms with my groupies, but it often comes down to them saying the same two or three spiritual words over and over again.

How can you not hate the word "culture" being sullied by prepackaged corporate designed pop stars who barely sing their own music? In too many cases the record companies have promoted garbage to the lowest common denominator because:
1) it's done as "work for hire" so the company gets a bigger cut and owns the copyrights
2) they know that that repetition can sell anything
3) million dollar music videos and flashy circus-like shows can distract people from the fact that the music sucks

If his dad had died then how could he have been able to get Lex the tickets? And why would said tickets be the most important thing on Lex's mind? Obviously it's more of Vit's famous dark humour.
