Newbie Comic Reader, Needs Help

Post by milker »

Ok, So Robb has talked to me for years about the pure pleasure the whiff of a nice new comic book can bring. So I have decided to take my allergy medication and try to whiff a copy of Spawn.

I must say I am now hooked. In the last 2 weeks I have managed to purchase 6 comic books and 2 graphic novels. I must say I am tormented by the thought of reading comics as a kid. I love these damn things already.

So, where do I begin? I think one of my first purchases will be the cover sheets and cardboard backs as each of them I have purchased has been 25 cents. Kind of a rip, but I wanted them to be protected.

What should I start reading? I like Spawn a lot and enjoy Formerly Known and the Justice League.

Any other suggestions for a HORROR fan? Also, do I need to join a subscription service? I am lucky to live 3 blocks from a milehighcomics.com store, but I am getting sick of stopping there everytime I get an urge to buy a new one.

So, I guess what I need is good links for reviews, good place to buy supplies, a good price guide, an actual good value and readable comic, and any other suggestions from you guys and gals.

Let me know as then maybe I can post on another board here on these forums for a change.

Thanks,

Milky Tnuc

I tried to break into "the scene" with the Thundercats Comics ... I'd rather just find the old episodes on tape.

Also: VOTE FOR ME BITCHES

Mile High Comics does have a subscription service, you flaming fucking snotpack. You could ask them to hold shit for you each month, or you could give them $50 and tell them which comics you want each month and they will draw that off.

I can't believe you live three blocks from Mile High Fucking Comics. That's like one of the biggest... well, biggest advertising... comic stores in the country. I have known about them for years. I used to see -- in between the ads for x-ray specs, sea monkeys and Bill Cosby telling people that if they can't send blood they should send money -- them hocking their wares in the backs of "Avengers" comics all the time.

And you live there? Three blocks away? And you want something bigger, better, stronger and faster? This is like a person with an air-conditioned view of the Sphynx stating that they'd really like the window pointing towards something scenic.

You are bidding on (1) set of (2) Graphic Novels featuring BATMAN and SPAWN together. One is published by Image, and the other by DC. These two books contain very intense, well written stories about the conflict between the two warriors of the night. These books are new, unread editions.

For $2.00 on ebay, shit maynard, you can't go wrong.

On the other hand, I had the first ten issues of NOVA when they first came out in the late seventies (?) I was young and impressionable then...

I remember when the scene was about the comics, and not the scat.

Apparently he IS a Superhero. He singlehandedly prevented the plot of a of no-good polititians cadre from coming to fruition that would change all the seasons, and with the power of his stuttering, fixed a rupture in the space/time-continuum that would have us being killed by our unborn children's corpses! (Or the tears of the Saints, I couldn't tell, but thanks to Scat, we don't have to worry about it either way.)

I'm the Scatman

(Scatting by Scatman John)

Everybody stutters one way or the other
So check out my message to you.
As a matter of fact don't let nothin' hold you back.
If the Scatman can do it so can you.

Everybody's sayin' that the Scatman stutters
But doesn't ever stutter when he sings.
But what you don't know I'm gonna tell you right now
That the stutter and the scat is the same thing.
Yo I'm the Scatman.

Where's the Scatman? I'm the Scatman.

Why should we be pleasin' all the politician heathens
Who would try to change the seasons if the could?
The state of the condition insults my intuitions
And it only makes me crazy and my heart like wood.

Everybody stutters one way or the other
So check out my message to you.
As a matter of fact don't let nothin' hold you back.
If the Scatman can do it brother so can you.
I'm the Scatman.

I'm the Scatman.

I hear you all ask 'bout the meaning of scat.
Well I'm the professor and all I can tell you is
While you're still sleepin' the saints are still weepin' cause
Things you call dead haven't yet had the chance to be born.

I'm the Scatman.

JC FUN FAX: Up until Friday, I thought the line in "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel was "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than die with the saints" rather than "cry."

It sort of ruins the whole song for me now.

Nevertheless, of the CDs that I have in my car to sell, Billy Joel's Greatest Hits is not one of them.
