RSS Feeds

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

I recently discovered something called the "RSS feed." There is one on a website that I happen to like.

There's little going on the main page of Jolt Country. I guess what I am wondering is... is it possible to have the main page have a smallish section with the last few updates on a particular RSS feed from elsewhere? I think (if my understanding is correct) that this can be done by apps that are on people's desktops, but I don't necessarily need that. Just having a feed up and then a link to the forum here would be cool.

You can use RSS feeds to put 'headlines' on your main page, updated periodically (and automatically).

This is especially easy using http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/Magpie RSS.

See here: http://www.olate.com/articles/view.php?id=214 for a good intro on using Magpie and RSS to aggregate feeds on your page, and that blog also contains lots of other useful tutorials, etc. It's actually pretty easy to do/use.

Cool! Thanks, Hugella. I was hoping to make the main page of this site a php based endeavor anyway, so this is a great excuse to go forth and do so.

There was some alternative code at Caltrops.com that we were going to go with for our front page before we chose the purple motif. Maybe I'll design around that, as it was in php. Aces!
