Apparently, the Military is going to phase out its M16s. This is good enough news on its own, but what they are replacing it makes me very, very happy. Have oyu seen Pearl Harbor? Well, do oyu remember that scene where the huge bunker-buster bomb breaks through all of the armor plating and hangs lopsidedly down from the ceiling at all the soldiers just long enough for one of them to tentatively breathe "Thank god... a dudd!" before et explodes, killing everyone? In four years, every soldier in America will be able to make his grenade launchers do that. And the rifles will be a whole pound lighter than M4A1s, will be easier to use, be easier to fire without being cleaned, be more durrible, a more sane design... and the rifles should be ready in a year.
I dig this.
A lot.
