How can I clean (cooking) oil stains off of a painted wall?

Just hypothetically speaking, you understand.

What type of paint is it?

It is: white paint!

Have you tried the winning combination of Formula 409 + rag?

At the dollar store, there is a cleaner called something like "Awsome" or "Awsome Orange". It works great on grease.

This is why I never go to the dollar store with children. It can affect their spelling for years.

(Of course, I never go anywhere with children, so it's not a problem.)

(Then again, I never go anywhere with anyone, so there's really very little to worry about here.)

White paint should remove the stain.

Get off as much as you can with a solvent, then spray on bleach. That's what takes out mildew stains, might work on darkened grease stains.

I'd be surprised if any kind of household cleaner will work...oil has a tendency to soak in, and once the paint is ruined in this way, the only solution is to repaint. You might try a little mineral spirits on it first....it's sometimes used to thin some types of oil used in woodworking (specifically tung oil), so it may work on your walls (the spirits shouldn't affect the paint itself, assuming it's latex).

If you have to repaint, seal the oil stains with a shellac based primer (like Zinnser BIN) before painting...that'll keep the oil from bleeding through the new paint.

Well, I'm outta this dump in a week anyhow, I just don't want it to affect my security deposit.

I wash the walls now..but I never sem to get them clean.





Use a utilty knife (the kind found on major airlines) and cut out the section of wall with the offending stain. Replace the hole with standard USG drywall and yellow fibertape. Use a generous amount of joint compound and sand to a smooth finish. repaint as desired.

This is 100% guarenteed to get rid of ugly, cat related, oil stains.

You're assuming that his walls are made of drywall, not plaster/lath.
