Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Sorce family, and particularly Don Geronimo, whose wife, Freda Wright-Sorce, died in a tragic car accident yesterday.

That really sucks! She added to the show bigtime. Don won't be the same Homer Simpsonish kind of guy anymore with her gone.

I've listened to the show since they first got to WJFK, which was... Jesus, 15 years ago? Of course, on and off for the many years I was away, but I've always considered the show one of the greatest entertainments available. Of course, I'm a radio junkie, so take that into consideration, but after listening for so many hundreds of hours, you do form an attachment with the people involved.

Hearing this news was very odd, because while it is a goofy radio show, and I probably wouldn't be able to pick her out of a lineup, it was almost like hearing about an extended family member dying. Very weird. I can't think of any "celebrity" death which really got to me like this one did, and she wasn't even a celebrity.

This is why radio, the rancid cesspool it is, is still the best medium in the world, when it's good. The relationship between host and listener is a lot more intimate, and in very special cases where a host will talk candidly about his own life (Don Geronimo possibly the most compelling of all of them), a connection is formed.

Oh well.

God. That was a crushing moment of radio.

At the very end of the show today, Beth Anne came in and signed the show off by saying the same thing Don says at the end of the show, breaking down at the end:

"Love you Freda... Love you Bart..."

...then added, quietly, "Love you Don."

Man. That was brutal. I'm all kvelled up over here.

It's that crap they pump over the "public" airwaves. You know, play 2 songs (out of a rotation of 12), then 6 commercials, then repeat ad infinitum. And heaven forbid if the word "penis" is uttered....$500,000 fine!

I can't remember the last time I listened to regular radio. Thank God I can download commercial-free Howard Stern shows off the 'Net.

Yes, on Jolt Country halff of us talk about the people who died that we miss even though we never met them and the other half make fun of the first half.

I didn't realize how many of you knew of the best show ever.

This show sucked. Why did it suck? Becuase for the enitre duration of my life in Colorado they ran the same promo commercial for this stupid show. The commercial was these two fags laughing at themselves. The laugh sounded like they each had king sized cherry danishes lodged in their throats.
I'm sorry, if you are going to advetise a show you should do a better job than play a tape of the stars laughing at themsleves. If I wanted that I would tape myslef reading my own posts.

Yes Don and Mike are an aquired taste, and it does take time to get used to them. And yes I am sure the radio promos are terrible as many promos for many shows are terrible....like ads for the Brad Davies show here in rochester.....

I have aquired that taste and hell there are bits I don't care for but it sure doesn't get any better than Mike doing the Col. Harry Morgan-Potter readings.....and it was better when they could read letters to penthouse as a part of that bit..... F'n FCC.....

Don's first day back, nobody else was in the studio. Just him and a microphone for two hours (the first 1.25 hours straight, without a commercial break).

Amazing, unbelievable radio.

You'll never heard anything like it again.

I heard part of it today. Where can I find a copy of the whole thing?

I'm trying to get it off alt.binaries.don-n-mike, but most of the segments seem to be missing parts.

Anyone having any better luck? We only need the first two hours.

(And that part at the end? Where he completely loses it, right before playing "their song" ("Everlasting Love")? Jesus.)
