OK, I just attempted to upload an Avatar... and it didn't work. I'll attempt to fix this tonight so you guys can post images under your username.

This also kicks out your attempt to register (registration doesn't take, in other words) so I apologize for that if you see it.

I'd actually prefer if you all refrained from uploading any "avatars" for yourselves.

Huh? Why are you anti-avatars? What the?!?

The only thing I can think of -- besides the fact that you would hate us all and would punch each one of us in the face if you were given half a chance -- is that some avatars make browsing difficult at work. Jamie has one which isn't exactly worksafe over on the Groucho forum. But already the color scheme of this particular bulletin board screams, "I AM NOT DOING REAL WORK!! LOOKIT ME!! FIRE ME!!!"

In which case my response is, of course, "okay, good point, yes, those of us that have avatars should ensure that they are not particularly titilating."

But I don't know if that's it or what. I seek knowledge. Please, please, elucidate your thoughts.

Attaching a "picture" (especially a pseudo-provocative one, as you mentioned) indicates a lack of identity and an overwhelming need for approval.

Those are not the kinds of people that I normally like to commingle with.

And really the chief problem with the bulletin board is that my friends of ten plus years -- the target audience, shall we say, that I was running the board in "test mode" for, so as to hit the ground running when we launched, have utterly (with one exception: bless your heart, gnomie) failed to register.

With that in mind, allow me to say this, in case any of them are lurking:

YOU'LL ALL PAY DEARLY FOR THIS INSULT, YOU MISERABLE FUCKERS.

On the other hand, I can appreciate the challenge of creating a new community from the ground up, and will do so to the best of my abilities. It is my hopes that this BBS ultimately becomes the first (non-porn) place people want to click to when they wake up in the morning.

Of course, I could go edit the previous post to make it say "gnomie and Chris" but that's the kind of subversive, "drunk with power" shenanigans that I don't think anyone wants to see.

No plans for life sucking. Truth to tell, I have missed running a bulletin board ever since I shut JC down. I don't really have the peace-of-mind necessary to run a computer of my own out there on the internet for anyone to access, so this (using a webhost & phpBB) is a nice solution.
