Web dev tool...

I needed an opinion and I thought, what better place to get one than here?!

I will be diving into web dev (hobby, at first) and was wondering what the, ahem, recommended web dev tool is. Dreamweaver, Front Page, ASCII editor and a wealth of HTML knowledge, fuck web dev -- just surf for porn, etc...

I know nothing (per se) so don't be afraid of insulting my intelligence...

Thanks!

(by the by, I was tempted to post in the other thread Robb, but ya know how that goes... All I can say to that other guy -- "No Time To Squeal" rocks -- I guess he hasn't seen the glowing review at download.com, eh? ;)

This is my take: I use Front Page 97 at home and Front Page 2000 at work. The thing is... it shows. It shows, and it shows badly. In fact, when I wanted to do something the least bit fancy (like have the text properly formatted for my "games" page) I had to ask a buddy to help me out, who fixed my formatting problem by hand.

Additionally, the layout on the www page is one that I got from a free HTML archive. I can modify it in Front Page, but I am not sure if I could have made it from scratch.

The other thing is that I see with my eyes every day just how good Ben "Pinback" Parrish's webpages look. They are probably as good as it gets with straight HTML. I have asked him many a time just how he does it and he says that he just writes out the HTML. He doesn't use a WYSIWYG editor, and in fact I think one time he said that if I continued to, he'd punch my lights out the next time he saw me. (He also offered me a small sum of money to quit posting entirely at the same time, but that's just his thing.)

I think that ultimately the answer might come down to "you'll want to code things by hand for the best result, but if you must use a WYSIWYG editor, you should use "this" one," where "this" is any editor not named "Front Page." I've simply gotten used to FP. It's too late for me, Mike. I can't be saved. I am in HTML-Hell. You, however, can still be! I will search for better answers and post them here.

(Also!!! Congrats on that late push in the IF Fantasy Baseball League. If I had to lose the coveted 7th place finish to somebody, I'm glad it was you. OK, truth to tell if it were ctate or Roody or whomever else I would have said the exact same thing, but still. Armed with a year's worth of gettin' schooled, I am hoping that a future Sousa-Sherwin collaboration can be a 1-2 finish in that league. Heh, heh, heh.)

Front Page it is then! Er, yeah...

Okay, I have access to Dreamweaver at work, I'll give that a go. That should keep me busy until 11/15 or so.

Yeah, my managerial moves late in the year were nothing short of genius. I'm waiting for a call from the front office of Tampa Bay.

I see your trade for front line pitching worked out very well... heh...

Next year it is and speaking of fantasy, wassup with the fantasy football league at Yahoo. My hello message from a couple of weeks ago went surprisingly unanswered.

And DETROIT? And least we lost to an undefeated team!

OK. I think you will have some success with that.

Every trade I made was the wrong one. I bet that A-Rod outgained Colon and Martinez in that span. Martinez only had one freaking start for me! Here's a guy who is more or less the gamiest gamer's pitcher in the MLB, and he sat out his last start. That hurt. Pedro was the last guy who I thought would do that.

Colon didn't pitch for very long because the Expos were out of it. Argh.

There was a message in the King's Quarters, but essentially I didn't get enough people to join up. I'll try to regroup and advertise it more for next year. But yeah, I was rather disappointed. Personally, I blame Lex and Ben.

That's why it sucks being a Saints fan. How the hell they knock off three playoff teams in a row and then go out and lose to a team that is a national punchline is beyond me.

There were a number of undefeated teams that got a "L," though, so it's like there was a lot of other shrapnel out there to help cover up the Saints' debacle of an effort.

A-Rod went on a tear at the end. Martinez caught a lot of flack for his "shutting it down" comments with them still mathematically alive for a playoff spot. He's a gamer alright but he does show signs of "me...me...me..." if you look close enough.

Detroit is pathetic but look at it this way -- they have more freakin' wins then the "Greatest show on turf!". I couldn't be happier that the <i>Dynasty</i>, as Ricky Proehl referred to themselves before the Super Bowl kickoff, is OH-FER... Fuckin' A!!! (apologies to any Rams' fans reading this... no, check that, no apologies -- you guys suck!)

And please, take out your frustration on the Steelers this week. Any team that has players that *think* they went to the Super Bowl last year deserve to be playing in the CFL.

Ahem. Yeah, Dreamweaver... cool...
