Civilization 4 is fucking awesome

They kept the great stuff about Civ2 (mostly) and eliminated the dumb stuff. Great sequel.

Ran through half of a multiplayer game with Da King last night and multiplayer holds up -- I really suspect there is a little simultaneous turn taking going on when the human civs haven't met (which is perfectly OK).

They ... I'm going to use the word "nerf" even though I had no idea what it meant for the longest time -- they nerfed nukes, though. And the true horror of the game is that, apparently, the UN can force you into a non-nuking treaty, worldwide. I don't know, I didn't play more than two minutes of Rise of Nations, but I know that it featured nuclear weapons and maybe by bypassing that I'm left with a hunger other gamers don't have.

So, if I pick this up, what is the chance of Stalin and Lincoln demanding I teach them the alphabet? Also, how big can the multiplayer get and how long does it last? I would have picked it up early to play with Mao but his computer has Chipset issues.

Stalin isn't in it. Why would Stalin be in it? This game can't have WHITE PEOPLE who killed millions. Genghis Khan is OK, though.

Is future tech suppose to be something you can get before the very end of 2050 AD?

Also, is there any difficulty in any turn based or real time game that doesn't simply involve the other computer players conspiring against you? Fuck, in Starcraft it was at least nice and obvious when a multicolored strike force headed your way. This fucking thing lets me waste half an hour before revealing a big civilation conspiracy to take out the one non-computer player.

Did you manage to download it as a torrent and get it working? Sweet christ! I hate paying for broken computer games (and Civ IV has run fine) but I thought that copy protection had actually beaten the pirates.

What release did you get? Is Deviance still around?

They said that you could customize things in XML, which is so easy that people who don't know it should still put it on their resume. But obviously XML isn't going to be any help if you're trying to do modeling. Now that I'm on vacation I shall investigate.

I think that would drastically reduce the chances of other civilizations ever interacting with you.
