In England, everyone has it great. When you buy your games they come in DVD slip cases.

The American publishers are too cheap to do that. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. I bought $20 worth of DVD cases last week. I got half that just fit two discs and half that fit up to six discs.

I'll be taking this money out of my future game purchases if you follow me. But that's not why I'm here today.

Is there any place that has scans of such games as Civ 4 (two shitty paper sleeves for one of the most lucrative franchises in entertainment), Psychonauts (THE MIND OF TIM SCHAEFER apparently does not include plastic packaging) or ObsCure (WE ARE RUSSIAN WE CAN NOT HELP IT)?

I found one for Half-Life 2 already.

Oh, and Doom 3 came in a large jewel case, which makes it the best game out of all of them as far as I am concerned.

Most of the time the CDs sit in a drawer or in the original packaging. Why go to the trouble?

Oh. It's probably OCD or something. OCD or hated at those cocksuckers so completely ripping me off.

But, ah... what's a good way to put this. I re-install Windows XP a lot. Not because I want to, but because it needs it. Sooner or later I need to find some odd image or video file and that has me bringing my computer to the on-line equivalent of Africa. Who knows what it's going to come down with. I can't justify spending money on an actual virus and spyware blocker, so I use the free stuff and it works like a pair of crisp nice dress slacks.

I mean, the creation of viruses and spyware should be illegal. The people who knowingly host it should be locked up. I'm not paying money for this. I'll use AVG and Spybot, but come oooOOOoOOooOOon, you know? I'm sure that's why my "gaming rig (C) TM inc" was locking up during use so often. The re-install fixed that.

But it also means I have to re-install half the games I'm in the middle of. HL2, Civ 4 and ObsCure all came out and I was once again infuriated at their crappy packaging. I wish, for the first time, that I lived in Europe. We're a country that threw tea into the Boston Harbor but we have no problem with paper CD sleeves? Not my America. Not my America. Quiz me.

Firefox, DUH. Some recent articles came about where people were testing spyware infections and Firefox was impervious. The only way someone was able to make spyware come down was by specifically OKing a suspicious Java applet.

Anyway, screw all those CDs. Dump everything onto DVDs now. Many multigame CDs happily install without whining when the files are all dumped into one big directory, and if it requires running off a CD (or if it's protected or whatnot), just put the CD image there and use Daemon Tools. Voila, you've cut your pile of game CDs by at least SEVEN TIMES. HL2, Civ4, and a few other games, all on one disc. Easy peasy.

Not to mention that CDs are way, way more expensive per gig than DVDs nowadays.

Loathed as i am to agree with anything Jeff says, (A) he's right, (B) you're (1) wrong and (2) an idiot, and (C) http://www.getfirefox.com.

I want to get a bunch of those paper cd sleeves. That way I don't have to give away all my nice plastic cases. I've been wrapping CDs in paper towels and old copy paper used for print head cleaning. It makes me look like a cheap bastard, but it works.

Did you pick up the fact that I was buying these games? You don't honestly expect that I am going to dump them to a DVD and throw out the originals, do you? Because my faith that a DVD-R will last 100 years is when I live to be 131 years old.
