Question: The present happiness of the Korean women brings back many memories of the past. What do you think about it?

Answer: The same is the case with me. People compare women with flowers symbolic of beauty.

Flowers go well with women cherishing purity, devotion and love.

In the past the Korean women had long lived under feudal oppression and subjugation.

During Japan’s occupation of Korea they had to suffer disgrace and humiliation as sexual slaves for the Japanese army.

After the country’s liberation (August 15, 1945) they came to restore their dignity and live with pride.

Over the past six decades since national liberation they have retained their dignity as flowers of families and society, as proud masters of the country.

Q: At present women take a large part in bringing up younger generation.

A: You’re right. Mothers are the first tutors of their children.

Women find their pride in giving birth to children and bringing them up well.

Keeping in mind that the upbringing of offspring is a matter vital to the future of the nation, they are devoting every effort to the eduction of their children.

Realizing that the Songun leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea defends their present happy life and ensures the future of a thriving nation, many women feel proud of getting their children to join the army.

Among them is Om Tan Suk at Koryo-dong, Kaesong City, who sent her seven sons and daughters and three grandchildren to the army.

Q: The Korean women are playing a big role in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.

A: They take a large share in building a thriving nation with the same social status as men’s.

A large number of women participate in state politics as deputies to the Supreme People’s Assembly and power organs at all levels and enjoy public respect as managers, chairwomen of management boards, scientists, artistes and sportswomen.

Among the pacesetters of the times are many women including Pak Ok Hui, chairwoman of the management board of the Janggang County Town Cooperative Farm who set an example in double and triple cropping in northern highland and researcher Hyon Yong Ra at the non-ferrous metal institute under the State Academy of Sciences who made remarkable achievements in scientific research.

Q: I want to know about the women who did good things for society and collective.

A: In the period of “Arduous March”when the country experienced economic difficulties ten years ago a lot of women gave unstinted assistance to the People’s Army with the awareness that the country can be safeguarded only by a strong army. Among them are Pak Chun Ae in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang and Kim Song Sun in North Hamgyong Province who have aided the army for decades, being called by soldiers “Our mother”.

They are still aiding the army.

The Korean women take an active part in the patriotic efforts to build a prosperous nation and fulfil their responsibility and role to achieve family harmony and social unity.
