The Ph.D files

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

There is a guy on the IF newsgroups named Steve Breslin. This guy can't STAND a natural language system like Inform 7. You might think to yourself that, hey, that's an odd thing to get worked up about. You'd be right, but then again you're probably not batshit insane.

One of his latest efforts was the following. The context is that another poster refered to Breslin as "Doctor."
Don't call me that. You're probably aware I only mentioned my educational background a few months ago because someone (who is indeed deserving of being condescended to as "doctor") was patronizingly calling me Mr. Breslin.
On one hand we have Graham Nelson. Reverse engineered the Infocom games, making it possible to play them without ANSI nonsense in the modern day. He constructed a programming language that allows people to write story files in a compatible format with Infocom products. He has won the IF Competition, released several acclaimed games (for free), started the whole "IF Development Systems are Free" movement (we might all still be paying for TADS otherwise), and developed a natural language system for making IF that is the single biggest development, in terms of making game coding easier for non-programmers, in the history of the world. He is also a published poet and a fellow of mathematics at Oxford.

Breslin hasn't made it out of the fucking University at Buffalo and has created a webpage called All About the Egg.

Eggs are yummy!
