The continuing problem here is that there are no more up and coming performers to fill the huge void that J.B. has left. Since the huge retro trend of the last ten to fifteen years*, there has been very little in the way of new innovators. I wonder if the scene is slowly srying up like a Serengeti watering hole during the dry season.

* Two examples of this retro trend:

1) I used to listen to NEW music on WCMF when I was younger. Now I listen to the same music that was new back then. They don't play new music any more.

2) Everyone wants to sell vintage looking and sounding amps and guitars. There is no new styled gear, unless you buy a keyboard or something digital. Dammit I want some jetsons looking seven string axe with triple humbuckers and a digital whammy. Not a 1959 Les Paul. Or Rickenbacker

Listen to Gnarls Barkley. Totally fresh-sounding. And they get played in just about every format except Country.

Q? Their entire gimmick is modern retro. If you were actually being sarcastic, there, I have just explained it for those who do not know what GB sounds like.

As an illustration of my point I will now cite an example.

The Who (what's left of them, heh) released an album last October. I want to listen to some of the songs on the radio. What radio station do I tune into to be able to hear some of this music?

CMF plays classic rock. They don't play any Who after 'Face Dances'
WBER plays new stuff, but The Who is considered to be a classic rock band so they won't play any at all.
the BUZZ plays classic rock but they have such a small playlist I believe the entire day's programming is done on an ipod nano.

So what do you do with an old band that still writes new stuff? I don't think there's any room for them on the radio because everything is stagnating. I know it's money fueled somehow...

Yes have released several albums since "Talk" back when I still lived in New York, but I have never, ever heard a single on the radio from any one of those albums, ever. Looks like they are in the same boat.

Can't get enough "Jeremy" from Pearl Jam, though. They will be playing that one till the end of time.

JC FUN FAX: I have never enjoyed a single Pearl Jam song and I honestly don't see how anyone could.
