RSS feed that are GOOD

Google - www.google.com/ig - lets you put RSS feeds on your Google page. Hooray!

Here are the ones I have, and let me review them:

craigslist (arcade -event): Some asshole kept putting up event tickets, like 20 times a day, so I removed the word "event" from the RSS feed. I don't like it because it's not updated as often as the actual site is. But this is an information gathering feed, so I can wallow in the fact that recent tax mixups had me passing on an environmental Spy Hunter for $700. Motherfuck.

Game Tunnel: Apparently indie game authors can post there and advertise their game. Actually, I'm going to try it myself and see what happens. Updates once or twice a week.

ESPN.com: I hate ESPN like every other red blooded American male does these days, but they are a fat lot better than their competitors. Horrible puns.

Yahoo Sports: Blue Jays. I need less Yahoo in my life, but I can't find a better feed on the Jays.

Yahoo Sports: Saints. See above.

Yahoo Sports: Flyers. Haven't removed this from Google Portal yet. Fuck Philly sports fans.

Google Weather: I made a JPG of what it seems like they try to accomplish recently. In fact that went completely without comment by the people here, even though the updates posted by "1" included nothing but "1". I was shocked that nobody said a goddamn thing, but I'm not in this for the accolades.

My Google Groups:
rec.games.int-fiction: Eh.

rec.arts.int-fiction: Mostly ruined by a bunch of fucking assholes who have driven off people I do wish to read about.

rec.games.vectrex: The longest lasting Vectrex group. There had been movements to move everyone to fora and it blew up like it did on raif. NOTE: There are plenty of people happy to read all they can about text games and I think there was the perception that the intfiction.org forum was out to replace something, even though Merk said he wasn't trying to do that. It's too bad, because that's a perfectly fine forum/website.

rec.games.collecting.video.arcade (or something close to it): Tons of info here and these people stopped me from killing myself when I tried to fix my Crystal Castles

rec.games.marketplace.video.arcade: I have actually never, ever seen a game in Colorado posted here. However, I did get a lead when I posted that I was looking for a Tempest. It didn't end up being the one I followed, but there's some behind the scenes action there. Many lurkers.

Top Stories: I just try to keep my head in what the top three news stories are. Usually it's Bush fucking something up, so I guess I could trim it to two.

Stock Market: I am not currently active, but I keep track of stocks I have owned and companies I have worked for. Oh, and Microsoft as well, which does not fit either category.

Kotaku.com: The guy seems very dedicated.

Digg: This one is probably going away.

CBS Sportsline Scores: In ideal conditions, this one is awesome: it gives me the fantasy baseball and football scores in real time. Their own websites often fail to do this. CBS has weird login rules and I'm not always cookied, though, which makes this sometimes of no value.

ASCII by Jason Scott: Always a fun read and I appreciate his dedication to keeping his feed updated. Bill Simmons has a billion more readers than the rest of us combined and he couldn't surround himself with an accurate feed if Larry Bird's life depended on it.

RetroBlast: Sometimes they have nonsense up there, but very few important advances in the field of building your own arcade cabinet escapes them and this feed.

GP2X File Archive: Much better than going to their site every day to see if someone has updated MAME so Discs of Tron works.

Another fantastic thread ruined by annonamous cowards. Anyway, if I had time to do net things anymore I would most deffinetly get "into" RSS, but sadly I don't. If I did, though, I'd check these:

DLTV, Crankygeeks, TWIT, Security Now!, WIndows Weekly--they're the only podcasts I listen to (aside from 2Sense, but that's more nestalgia at this point than anything--although I haven't had him say anything I didn't already say). If I had a way to get an RSS feed to youtube and watch new Daily Show clips every day I woudl do that in lew of news to get a more balanced look, but right now tech is what I'm interested in because tech's where my job is. Dvorac, Norton and Laport are the only three people I can listen to for extended periods of time without getting annoyed by some quirk of the speaker, like he's long-winded or dumb or letting bias influence his judgement etc. Yadda yadda. Cranky Geeks usually has a pretty good lineup and it's always entertaining for the occasional crow-eating. Security Now! and Windows Weekly are really informative and educational without making me feel like I'm being talked down to. <--plugs

Hydrogenaudio, Slyc, Gearslutz: I use a lot of bittorrent, and I'm playing at this whole professional musician thing here, so slyc helps keep me abreast of changes in the world of downloading and as a nice side benefit usually delves much deeper into the RIAA's business practices. GS and HA both answer professional-audio type questions and help save money with the recommendations of people who obviously know what they're doing.

Toolnavy, joltcountry: A replacement for the GFAQS war on terrorism board, fans of Tool tend to dig deeper into political and social issues and come upon interesting articles and happenings around the world. The discussion is by and large worthless, but it's worth it for the assortment of information. Might replace this with dig.

Perverted Justice--I've actually been attacked for liking this organization more than any other opinion; while I dont' agree with a lot of the personal extremism of the site owners they seem to do a great job of keeping emotions in the press releases and out of their practices. Used to read his "bloggGgGgGGGgG" back in the day when I cared about such things but he's taken it down due to being sick of all the personal attacks. So I read Adam Cadre's calendar instead. DOn't think that has an RSS feed however, but somewhere along hte way this sort of metamorphosed into "websites Lysander likes." ONward! ONly not, I was actually, er, done.

OK, so, help me understand what the benefit of RSS is... To me, a non-tech person, it sounds like... Being able to view web content without going to that specific page... So... To view a page's new RSS content, you just go to... another page? Or the RSS feed thingy in your browser?

Bugs: The advantage of RSS feeds is that it's a simple, easy way to see what the current main articles are on a given site without having to navigate through that site. RSS also allows you to have the headlines from a number of different sites all on one page, which is convenient and saves time.
