Castle Crisis is possibly the greatest port of all-time. It is a reproduction of the arcade version of Warlords, but for the Atari 800.
It's unbelievably well-done. "Arcade perfect" is a term that ... well, I was going to say, "that a lot of people throw around," but I don't want anyone getting the idea that I am some sort of huge fucking nerd. Castle Crisis is arcade perfect.
Thanks to an amazing discovery, I was able to get my Atari 800 working through RCA jacks. The discovery in question was simply choosing the right colors to go into the video jack. On the scale of discoveries, this is a bit like Balboa "discovering" the Pacific, I grant you, but still. Here was my problem, previous to this cartridge being offered:
- Castle Crisis can't be placed on a Flash cart.
- Therefore, to play Castle Crisis, you need to have your Atari 800 tethered to a computer.
- I'd like to play Castle Crisis on the "big" TV. (Big is a relative term, it's just a 28" screen.)
- But I don't want a computer two feet from the TV.
Now that Atari Age is selling it, I can simply pop the cartridge into the Atari 800 and play it from there.
My brother got me another set of paddles for Christmas (how many times do you get the same gift for Christmas in 2007 that you did in like 1982) so I am going to be all set here. Warlords is one of the best "party" games of all-time, and CC allows me to play it on really amazing, original hardware.
Castle Crisis is IN STOCK at Atari Age.
