Dead Rising is in a house. MY HOUSE

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Good old EB - turned - Gamestop. They had one copy left that was just the game. (They gave me a DVD case, but it had generic art.) Same goddamn price as a used copy with the instructions and DVD art, of course. $17.99.

Their webpage lists it new at $35. But my receipt said I saved two dollars buying it used. Well, whatever, at least I got the game. And Lex was able to help me confirm that my memory card had enough space to install it. Consoles in 2008, everyone! Check those space requirements.

If I sound bitter, it's only because I am, sort of! Anyway, I was less bitter because I found this:

http://www.allcdcovers.com/show/51129/d ... _dvd/front

There are websites now that have both custom art AND the real art. For games. The custom art happened to be better than the real thing, so I downloaded that and will print it at work on Tuesday.

I hope the game lives up to its auspicious introduction in my life!

I believe the most amusing kill in that game is sticking a shower head in the skull of a zombie. you get to watch as the undead creature gets an impromptu shower of it's own blood.

Hey, so that text sure seems small on my non-HDTV! Let me just go look on the support forum and see if I can fix that. Surely they used the advantages Xbox Live provides to simply increase the font of the in-game text!

I knew it would be bad going in, but I really didn't take the "unreadable" thing literally. The text is unreadable. Hope it's not important!

There was a laughable excuse given by some shithead at Capcom as to why they couldn't print the fucking text bigger thrown out, but honestly, it just makes them look incompetent.

The REASON they won't do it? They don't care and there is no money in it.

The EXCUSE they gave? "If you fix one thing in a computer program, other things might break."

The CONCLUSION I draw? They are too fucking incompetent and frankly, complete amateurs when it comes to software development, if they can't change the size of some text in their game.

Sort of glad I got the new version now so that I didn't directly send them any money.

I also like that it is "optimized" for HD. Because a fucking toggle switch that went "HD" or "Shitty TV" would be impossible. They would have to be down to the LAST BYTE on the DVD for it to matter.

It does drive me crazy that in business, nobody ever flat-out fucked up. The guy at Capcom could have said, "We fucked up, and my managers won't give me the programmers to fix and test this. Sorry." But no, every negative is in fact a positive.

Yeah, unfortunately, that game is pretty unplayable on a regular TV, and sadly, it's not as good as it was hyped to be even on a HDTV.

I did enjoy taking a mannequin and beating the crap out of some zombies with it. I like that part. I guess I need to get a VGA adapter for the thing, which is fine as I have a KVM switch on this PC. Sound will be a pain to get connected, though.

I am finding the fighting controls to be a tad sluggish. That and the lack of save-anywhere are my ... well, OK, the text thing too - so I guess those three things are my main gripes so far.

And all the loading going on.

Also, if the writers were trying to go for the anti-hero thing, they got the anti part right. I don't like this guy so far.

That being said, from what I DID manage to guess from the text, there seems to be a shitload of modes, like "scoop mode" and "escort mode" and whatever. And leveling up, which is always a plus.

By the way? BY THE FUCKING WAY?

THE. SAVE. SPOTS. ARE. BEHIND. A. LOCKED. FUCKING. DOOR.

THAT. I. DON'T. HAVE. THE. KEY. TO.

WHAT WERE THEY FUCKING THINKING????? I NEED A FUCKING "MAINTENANCE KEY????? WHAT THE FUCK??!?!!?!?!?!?

Honestly, fuck this FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. This is the worst designed game I have ever played in my motherfucking life. Save points! Behind locked doors! And if I want to get the key, I'd better go to GameFAQs because the TEXT IS TOO FUCKING SMALL TO READ!

Hahahahaha.... AHAHAHahaha..... HAHAHAHAHAHA.... what the fuck is this, some sort of sick social experiment?

I can honestly fucking say that I spent more time designing Necrotic Drift - another game with undead in a mall, with the ability to use things as weapons, including an original Xbox - than these MOTHERFUCKING JACKPISSERS did with this pile of shit. This is a fucking joke!

How did any of you assholes have any fucking fun with this? YOU CAN'T SAVE THE FUCKING GAME FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! I expect your MOTHERFUCKING 360s to be fucking on to this day while this pile of shit still in the drive!

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Yeah, but did you stick the showerhead in teh zombie yet?

I never played the game. I watched as my kid played for hours. Amazingly he bitched about the save points as much as you are. That, and the sheer amount of running from one continent to another in order to accomplish the most minuscule quests.

I have not done the showerhead thing yet.

I wrote up some thoughts on the game to the main JC page. Probably nothing new if you were reading this thread, but eh.

If you can approach it as an RPG and not an action game, you can be more forgiving of it's many issues.
That will click in your head, usually it happens at the same time you realise the zombies are not the enemy and task of the game, they are the gameplay of the game. They are Sonic's rings and Freeman's physics objects. Yeah, you can spend hours balancing paint cans on top of each other to reach the the outcrop. Or you could fight the boss and use the crane it's protecting.

Whether it's being punched in the face or eaten alive, Capcom has become concerned of a media backlash against its upcoming violence-heavy software catalog. As part of the same annual report to investors in which the developer and publisher reaffirmed its dedication to Western game development, Capcom also outlined a handful of potential obstacles to its business, one of which it describes as a possible "smear campaign" by the mass media against its titles.

Writes Capcom: "Some of our popular software titles have provocative graphics and text, such as violent and grotesque scenes. Accordingly, in the event of violent incidents and other criminal cases involving juveniles, we may be subject to a smear campaign by some sections of the mass media which often point out the correlation between crime and games."
I am part of the smear campaign.

I love the line about the "provocative" graphics and text. "Some of our titles have provocative graphics and unreadable text" would be a better description.
