I remember stars. I remember them because they were the first thing I do remember. Stars on a bottle of soda. Not stars like 5-pointed ones, either 4-pointed or 6-pointed, ones with long arms. The soda might have been brown or red. That I don't remember. But I do remember the stars. They were white, the bottle was clear.
Many years have passed; how many I do not know - but it would have to be at least 40 or maybe 45 years - and I do not remember how old I was when I saw that bottle with stars on it. I have forgotten many things over the decades. Sometimes I can't remember what I had for breakfast the day before. Sometimes I even forget what I had for lunch that day.
But I still remember the clear glass bottle.
And the stars.

Please excuse the ten-minute Photoshop job I did on that image. Ben and I felt it captured "the spirit" of his idea.

The spirit of Ben's ideas is, and shall always be, "Safeway" Brand Safeway Vodka, from Safeway.

We've been drinking the good stuff lately, Bruce. Here are some JC FUN FAX you may not be aware of:
1) Pinner and savvyraven moved to Colorado!
2) They have generously offered to start up Battlestar Galactica from the beginning. We catch a few episodes on Fridays nights. We're almost done with season one!
3) Ben, even if you were an unfeeling monster that didn't think that re-watching the show would be generous, extra-generously makes dinner for us! This is clutch because I can't cook very well, and it ensures I get one good meal a week. For instance, tonight, as I was on my own, was grits and eggs.
4) Three weeks ago, I attempted to get a mental visit from Wise Counselor, the made-up construct that sometimes gives me advice when I am piss-your-pants drunk. Only it didn't work! I got so drunk I passed out in their spare bedroom. Wise Counselor can't appear when tha drinkins that dear!
While Wise Counselor did not appear, I instead said how hot Starbuck was (who is a girl in the new version) approximately a million times.
...
... OK, I think you're caught up!

I love it! Ben, all I really have to say is.
Fuck you very much. Oh wait, Kathy probably does that already (presuming you're still with her.) Never mind.

I didn't know they released anything under a "Safeway" brand. I was under the impression Safeway has a series of house brands for different products and doesn't use "Safeway" as a brand name for anything they release, e.g. "Lucerne" is the house brand for Safeway dairy products.
The times I went to a Safeway when I was in Virginia the last few years, they wouldn't have had vodka anyway. In Virginia, only State Stores can sell anything stronger than Beer or Wine. Ben may remember this as it was the same thing in Montgomery County, Maryland where only county stores can sell anything above beer or wine, and they also sell beer (at room temperature only to encourage people not to drink in public).
The use of a house brand not the same as the name of the chain is common for a lot of chains. "Market Pantry" is Target's house brand for various food products. They sell a really tasty medium supreme pizza under the Market Pantry label for $2.99.

Oh please, like using a disinfectant or bug spray "in a manner inconsistent with its labeling," it is "a violation of federal law" to operate a burger joint and not sell fries.
For the humor impaired, the above is only correct for bug spray and disinfectants, but I've never heard of a burger place that didn't sell fries.

For the humor impaired, I was sarcastically referring to my tunnel vision which only allows me to make a beeline for the "crave case" and scarf as many sliders as possible until I do my lindsey lohan impression in the bathroom before going back for more whenever I am within a 100 mile radius of the glorious "restaurant" known as White Castle.
They have pulled pork now as well as fries <shudder>

I actually had some of pulled pork ones last time. Momma used to call it "Manwich", at least that was my opinion.
I think the closest White Castle to me is like 500 miles away. When I hit one, I have to try EVERYTHING.
