[INDIE GAME REVIEW] Super Laser Racer

Super Laser Racer defines for me everything that an indie title should be:

1. Awesomely fun, addictive gameplay.
2. Something you'd never see out of a major studio.
3. Not enough content.
4. Costs $10, which helps justify #3.

Super Laser Racer is a game in which basically ten Geometry Wars mans go at it on a TRON-esque, computery race track, with various weapons to pick up along the way.

Super Sprint was one of my favorite arcade games of all time, and this is basically that, with vector graphics replacing race car sprites.

If you do not both enjoy the hell out of this game, and also bemoan the fact that there's not enough content, then you have serious problems, and will never enjoy (or complain about) anything, and I hate you.

In summary, Super Laser Racer is the best $10 indie game I have ever bought, and is the greatest game of all time. Not really, but you get the idea.

The minute I get confirmation as to my start date, I am buying this.

The very minute!

I like everything about this game except for the controls.

I know Pinner didn't use a gamepad for it, so now I'm wondering what the fuck.

Everything else about it is great, and I am happy I gave the devs money for their product. But the racing part, the actual part where one races, really doesn't feel good.

I agree. I personally cannot understand how the hell the developers thought this control scheme was a good idea. Get a load of this shit:

Left arrow: Go left.
Right arrow: Go right.
Up arrow: Gas.
Down arrow: Brake.

WHAT THE FUCK?? I dunno what they're smoking over there at "New Star Games", but I want some. Or maybe I don't! COME ON, guys. At least TRY to give us a control scheme we can understand?!?!?!

Gawd!!

P.S. ICJ is bad at video games

Having the four arrow keys stand for left, right, accelerate and brake is like having a 2600 joystick where the only two buttons are on top of the stick and halfway down the cord.

I can't believe you're going on the internet... the actual internet... and admitting that you find "four arrow keys" to be a difficult key arrangement.

I...

Also, when you click "Options" and "Controls", does it give you an option to change the keys you use?

So, let's clarify some things.

1) You can re-map the controls.

I remapped up and shoot to be A and S. I'd use a gamepad, but fucking [Prototype] has my system all fucked up.

2) You can choose different cars. I had been playing one with an acceleration of "3." When I picked a car that had an acceleration of "5" it was perfectly playable. I can only assume that if there is a car with an acceleration of "1," it hasn't actually made it to the game yet. I mean, literally, not talking about its method not being in the latest build, the car simply hasn't arrived yet.

God, it must be frustrating to make indie games when stupid maggots like myself are around getting shit wrong. Sorry, Super Laser Racer Dev Team. This is my fuckup - not yours!
