Well, instead of digging up the GTA thread where I started talking about this game, I'll just mention that I got back to this tonight and finally beat the damn thing. So, what it all comes down to is, it didn't even give me the optimal ending because I guess I didn't collect enough gems. After liking Anachronox so much, I can't help but think that these guys are well-intentioned but man, did that game end up sucking my ass. Oh well.

Enough.... gems?!?!?!

Enough GODDAMN GEMS???!

You didn't get the right ending because your gem count was not high enough.

I guess this proves once and for all who was doing all the goddamn work on Doom II. Jesus Christ.

In other news, the Chemical Existence mod for Half-Life is the worst game I have ever played in my entire life. I would like to go on record and state that as officially the worst.

I hear ya. Truly, it is. I downloaded that, on a 56k, when I was really into the modding scene for half-life. There are some gems out there: Azure Sheep is quite good, the @What If?@ series, which question what would've happened, if, say, Gordon had jumped on that helicopter as it crashed, etc. That's quite good.

But Chemical Existence is terrible. Have you seen the Sniper Scope yet? I hope not. I hope you turned it off before that.

Also: The @They Hunger@ three-part series in Incredible, and stars the voices of the PC-GAMER UK people, so i'ts cool. There's another one set on a starship with an impressive intro, I cna't remember what it's called; also with the PC GAMER staff.

I believe that would be the U.S.S. Darkstar mod, also by the author of the They Hunger trilogy, Neil Manke.

Obligatory link pimpin': http://www.planethalflife.com/manke/

I've played a few mods for Half-Life, but they were all of the single-player variety. Low Ping Bastards on a T3 line who still feel the infantile need to win via wallhacking soured me on the whole online gaming thing.

Also, even in a fair contest, I tend to get my sorry ass schooled by some 16-year-old who can practice 20 hours a day over the summer. Or by some 35-year-old who's never failed to log in four hours of practice on an FPS since Quake I was out of beta. Or by, well, anyone else out there who doesn't completely suck at deathmatches the way I do. The disparity between the l33t masters of the world and the kiddie-pool duffers like myself is disheartening.

Single-playerwise, though, I hear that Poke 646 was very nice indeed. I haven't tried it myself, you understand, just passing the link along. http://www.poke646.com/
